StPatrickI find it really hard to believe that they don't benefit from us in any way. If that's true then they are terrible businessmen.
They don't though. in 2007, before ESEA was a league, Torbull ran a TF2 LAN tourney. The matches were actually really good and somehow DJ Wheat ended up casting the matches for the LAN attendees. Torbull fell in love with the game after that, he pugged the game quite a bit and he made it an official game the moment ESEA became a league a few years later.
Maybe its a dick move to flaunt that they don't make money from the game in our faces, but don't just assume they MUST benifit from it somehow. Even if they did, at the end of the day the main reason it's a part of ESEA is because Torbull simply fell in love with the game and always planned on supporting it competitively.
They're not as ambitious with the game anymore, at least not as much as the community would like, so yeah that kind of sucks. They were trying really hard early on, but the invite players back then didn't give a shit about growing the league and I think it left a bad impression. Now a days they keep it around but kinda expect us as a community to make the first move before they put in any extra effort.
