#278 Esea Client Mining Bitcoins in Off Topic
mebduderAll you're saying is you're cool with ESEA doing whatever the fuck they want as long as they pay somebody some money if they get caught. It's more like "we are cool with ESEA doing whatever the fuck they want as long as we can still play vidya games."

I'm not even going to try arguing on this forum about that one. If people are fine with being manipulated by a business as long as they can secure their own entertainment, that form of control is almost impossible to fight against.

Then again, you have to consider that ESEA didn't murder anyone; calling it stealing is a bit far-fetched. What you do have is inept management, which, in America, is so commonplace as to be completely forgivable and forgettable by the general populace. Children who fuck up do not get my money and they shouldn't get yours, but who am I to say what little Jimmy does with mom's cash.

'murca

Companies getting mismanagement doesn't only happen in America although your monologue about it sure was adorable. I may have to remind you that dealing with humans frequently results in mistakes and exploitation regardless of country or industry. If you were leading a company and one of your managers decided to take advantage of a situation and was caught by the public how would you like it to play out? Would you enjoy it if our society was such that because your manager fucked up your entire business is over? Do you really think it isn't acceptable for a user to respect the efforts the company made to make good on their blunder? Especially considering ESEA provides a lot of value for many people, and doesn't have a history of exploitation to this degree.

I would consider myself more against ESEA than most other tftv users, however I feel it's important to stay as objective as possible seeing as this is an infraction of the....

I have been told the following:

They narrowed down the incident to an individual and will be taking care of him.
they are upping the next prize pool.
donating the money to charity and 100% matching it.
reaching out to players with broken hardware because of the mining.

If all these things are true I think esea has sufficiently made up for their mistakes; and I'm comfortable with them at their current state. I don't think they have earned all the trust I had for the originally back (wasn't much to start with) but they did the right things. I just hope they would have done all of this even if the news didn't break into the gaming mainstream; the fact that more damming information came out the more mainstream attention it got is disheartening. I guess I'll never know but at least in this situation they made good.

Although I reallllly wanted a netflix style CEO apology video. oh well :(

#28 Moving on to ESEA - Need some help in Q/A Help

The sooner you jump into esea the better. Doing so will quickly make you aware of who is and isn't serious on your roster, and exactly how high (or low) your team's skill level actually is. Not to mention what your mentor already told you which is true; you will improve at an accelerated rate. Just be aware that this is because you will get your ass kicked. Make sure when you go into esea your expectations are to learn the previously stated and nothing more; don't you dare go into the seasons with record expectations.

Good luck, have fun, discover your team.

Sideshowyeah it'd be a great thing for competitive TF2 to basically die as an e-sport wooo...

Only the absolute top of TF2 teams make any money from esea and even the next best teams just break even going to lan. If you try to win open or IM (majority of tf2 players) then you get your money you paid to be playing in the first place back plus a little sugar on top. What exactly are you paying for you ask? you are paying to play on the shittiest tf2 servers in existence and to support the living of slimy admins who barley do their job; and in this case are fine with exploiting their users. ESEA is not a happy place perfect for TF2, anyone thinking this hasn't played in the league for a long enough time. Don't think for a second that ESEA dying wont be followed up by innovative attempts to fill the hole it left (I wont be a very big hole to fill).

this seems to be getting a lot of public attention. If ESEA gets destroyed by this I would be so happy.

I think one more team should name themselves after a duck so I can be even more confused as to who the ducks actually are / where.

#17 Razer Comms in TF2 General Discussion

looks like you can choose to give razor your email and other personal information in exchange for a free server and bloated software / overlay.

or pay 2 dollars a month for a mumble server and keep your personal information to yourself.

Although any new software that comes out and is marketing to "gamers" will undoubtedly bring new advertising money into differing competitive scenes so that's nice.

Where is the money going if the goal isn't reached?

Does it go to tf.tv? multiplay? an individual? also who makes that decision?

How does this campain work? I know if this was kickstarter if you don't raise 10,800 you would get no money at all; if this campaign fails do you still get my money? regardless I just donated 30 bucks. Good luck I hope this works out.
