#14 rahThread: 5cp stalemate solution in TF2 General Discussion
chiefdogHowever, the system doesn't exert enough pressure and there isn't any emphasis or reward for good tempo and thus, any game can be slowed down to a point where as both teams are content to stalemate on their respective points and jerk off until the timer runs out so they can do it all over again.

this is just not true. if you're DOWN any number of rounds you DO NOT want to stalemate cuz then you just fucking lose.
the only time you want to slow the game down (not even necessarily stalemate) when you are UP rounds (in my opinion) is when you are up 3+ rounds early in the match, or 2+ rounds late in the match. every single time i have played on a team and we go "hey we are up 1-2 rounds we can slow it down :)" we INSTANTLY get fucked by that false sense of security and get snowballed back to a tie game or worse. and when i say every time, i mean EVERY time. i honest to god cannot think of a situation in this game where you would want to stalemate other than if you're up like 4-1 with 5 minutes left in the match.

i know the purpose of your post is that "in theory it can happen", which is true, but when you get down to an actual in-game scenario i dont think any team should be content to "stalemate on their respective points and jerk off until the timer runs out so they can do it all over again."

denisavichThe dude got 23 seconds of useless information. The outcome of the round would have been identical even if he hadn't accidentally spec'd.

what if it wasnt useless? what if he had info that won the round?

bringing it back the hockey analogy, a lot of tripping incidents are probably inconsequential to the final outcome of the game, but you cant just go around tripping people, because what if it WAS consequential to a goal being scored? to apply it to TF2 - what if he saw X class in some weird position to stop the push and comm'd it to his team, yeah his team still lost, but what if it DID change the outcome?

we seem to give RGL a lot of flack for "lack of consistency" when it comes to their punishments. but punishing someone sitting in spectate for wayyy too long is the only way to build that consistency. to not punish this incident would be an invitation to people to push the limits of how long they can sit in spectate (e.g. "hmmmm this guy sat in spec for 20 seconds and got away with it... surely i can sit in spec for 10 and get away with it too...")

yeah im sorry guys but that literally does not prove that you werent ghosting, ya gonna have to deal with it. it happens in every sport. if you trip a guy in hockey on accident its still a tripping penalty. if you shoot a sick 3 pointer swish in basketball a second after the shotclock runs out, the shot doesnt count and the other team gets the ball. if you sit in spectator for 23 seconds youre still sitting in spec for 23 seconds.

just the way the cookie crumbles boys

dawg did he get up to use the bathroom or something how does it take 23 seconds to rejoin the team. i wanna give you guys the benefit of the doubt that he wasnt ghosting but from an administrative perspective how do you expect them to not think he was ghosting.

if you really werent ghosting this is just a case of "damn thats unlucky, bro". but 23 seconds?? cmon man thats a really long time to not rejoin team

#4 rahThread: 5cp stalemate solution in TF2 General Discussion

dude im gonna be real here: the solution to solving stalemates in 5cp is to not suck donkey dick at the game.

get your team involved in sack plays. a solo roamer bomb has like a 10% chance of making something happen. take space. pressure. get the other soldier to be a distraction and shoot rockets at the gamers. get your demo to walk forward and bait soldier bombs for free kills. ANYTHING other than saying to your roamer "alright buddy, time to die :)"

if youre running a sniper (Not Recommended because this SLows The Game Down - AKA a Stale Mate) change angles constantly. if you're spotted a good team will cover that angle and make sure you cant peek it without being blown to bits in half a second (or be pressured out n live by the skin of your teeth, forced to get healthy, etc which is SLOW and keeps the stalemate stale).

if youre counter sacking do the same shit i said in the first paragraph. stickies on process choke? get ur demo to air det the corner and clear the stickes so your roamer doesnt insta die. get your pocket to peek sewer and draw eyes and shoot rockets at em. ANYTHING other than telling your roamer "alright their roamer died now its time for you to do die too :)"

when you have mid (or enemy 2nd) the game is played at YOUR speed. if you have mid (or enemy 2nd) you do NOT get to complain about stalemates.

thank you for coming to my TED talk

trippahe could just have walls and accidentally put his mouse on the people sometimes

yea. but with the clips in the video in the OP it kinda looks like it just continues to track an enemy the crosshair is already near.

regardless tho cheating is cheating !

TimelessAren't STV and POV demos very very close to same thing nowadays? I've heard from AC admins that while POV demos are the best, STV is almost identical.

the mouse movements on an stv are slightly behind when shots get fired, which is what causes a "silent aim" sort of look when watching an stv

edit: also the POV of the player you're spectating in an stv's seems to be slightly behind where the player model actual is as well (this is VERY noticeable while watching stvs of jump maps, where rockets come out way in front of the camera when being synced, or look as though they should not be adding forward momentum, even tho they are)

here is a comparison of what that rocket syncing looks like on a POV vs the ROTW that used an STV i linked earlier
