I don't particularly appreciate people who don't care at all for TF2 making a TF2 website.

The mature way to handle this would be to temporarily mute the guy in the chat for a period of a few hours/a day, if you wish to follow the policy of "don't advertise other competing sites."

I don't agree with the extent of the punishment but I do agree that, I mean, first of all, you don't have free speech on a private website, and the owner of a website has the right to not allow advertisements for competitors on his website.

We didn't have anything to do with the creation of the current saloon.tf codebase or database structure and are unfamiliar with the way the site tracks items.

To my knowledge Cherry is working on fixing the issues presently, and if there are any remaining after the transition we'll handle them. We don't want to fuck with a live system we didn't build.

We're looking to bring the new version of Saloon to a live beta within the next few weeks. The current issues will not be present there.

Once we make the transition we'll resolve any outstanding issues with the "old" version regarding unpaid items.

There are legitimate concerns like malware but with the giant push to get rid of flash those concerns are kind of moot. If you're accessing a service/website, you're costing someone money, unless you're viewing an ad.

People say "oh well I'll just remove it if the ads aren't intrusive." First of all, how will you know the ads aren't intrusive if you're using adblock? Further, ads have to be intrusive because people blocked the non-intrusive ones that had a lower CPM, so now websites have to get more annoying to break even with their ads because fewer people see them. It's a vicious cycle.

We're heading to a stage of the internet that I think nobody wants. Websites that previously relied on ads will have to find funding in other ways, or shut down. You'll have to either pay to access a journalism website, or that website will start creating articles that look like legitimate articles but are "sponsored" in the background by some advertiser.

All this could be avoided if people didn't fucking block ads.
