So what do you guys think about color correction in videos, is it map dependedent or is there just one type thats popular in movie making?

Color correction is important for maximum quality, but you also have to remember that overdoing it is worse than not correcting in the first place.

Personally I love using curves for color correcting. It's easy and fast

Don't fuck with hue or saturation, just do a gentle contrast thing (per RGB channel, not on luminosity!) with curves like #3 said. This is what I do with paint.net:

bottom: clean (hopefully)
middle: luminosity
top: per channel
doing it per rgb channel thing changes the saturation along with the luminosity, but it's foolproof and impossible to fuck up with overtweaking (orange gullywash anyone?) and has a really nice dynamic effect so that it only happens to affect important colors
