TF2 will crash before I even see the loading screen. I click play, the pop up saying, "loading," it will say in the chat box, that I am in game, then it will close the loading box and never actually pop up with the game. Then it will just say that I am online and not playing. After validating myself, and or, restarting my computer, the game will actually load up with the main menu, but it will crash in a matter of 5 minutes. I also tried this fix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwoM3WqGiwQ it did not work. The best fix that worked was re-installing tf2, which after that, worked for a few hours, then the same problem started up again after crashing.

EDIT 2: After reinstalling a second time, and putting my CFGs in the correct place, still it did not work, it did not even load up once this time.

EDIT 3: After deleting the CFG folder, validating, then putting in all of my customs I think I got it to work.

after you reinstall tf2

do you drag in your old cfg folder?
are you putting this cfg folder in the right location? (custom/myshit/cfg and not /cfg)
is there launch options you have been using that are doing it?

some incompatible cfg options or launch options could maybe be doing it. dx8 too maybe, I dunno.

I had this problem too for a while, and none of the other solutions worked for me as well. Try updating your graphics drivers. It worked for me, hopefully it'll work for you.

I tried removing all my custom files, it didn't work, but I'm in the process of re-installing tf2 a second time, this time I will put the CFGs where you said, I did not have them there before.

EDIT: Tried that too, won't load up.

EDIT2: I think I got it to work after deleting the CFG folder again, the validating.
