Hey guys, this is my first post on the TF.tv forums, and I was hoping you could help me. For some reason i get this weird lag every few seconds, where my video stops and the audio loops for a second or two (sometimes longer). And when this happens, my character is forced to stop moving. Needless to say it get's me killed a lot and its very frustrating, and with the upcoming 6s season, and me playing medic, id kinda not like to die as much so i need a quick fix. TF2 isnt the only game it happens in, but its by far the most frequent. I usually avg about 100-130 fps nowadays, with all the changes Ive made to try and fix this problem, but nothing has worked. At first i thought it was my internet, which is pretty bad (@15 down/1 up) but its stable. I tried it off wifi and on LAN and got the same results so I dont think it's that. Then I thought it was my gfx card cuz it's a laptop (HP Pavillion dv7) and its a year and change old. But then I did some digging and turns out I have 2 gfxs cards. One being standard intel, and one being a Radeon HD, so idk if its that or not. I'll leave some specs here and if you have any tips, tricks, or advice to part with me, please share them. And if this happens to anyone else, that would make me feel a lot better, as i love this laptop dearly.

HP Pavillion dv-7 Notebook PC
6.00 GB RAM
Radeon HD 6490M
64-bit OS
Intel i5-2410M CPU @2.30GHz
2 processor cores
750 GB C: Drive
DirectX 10

I also use Chris's Max Frames cfg with only the eyes turned back on, and while I dont think it matters, I use my own custom HUD.

So sorry its so long, but I wanted to provide as much info as I could.
Thanks Again!

This happened to me a lot when I had an older computer, and upgrading fixed it completely. I don't see anything that would prohibit you from playing well, though. Try fiddling with your DirectX settings?

the problem is probably that you have two graphics cards.

if you're not doing anything graphically intensive it will use the intel onboard to save power and battery time, and it'll switch to the other card when doing something graphically intensive. if you don't ever move your laptop and just have it plugged in to the wall socket I'd recommend switching power profiles to high performance or something like that

In my computer settings, theres a configure switchable graphics menu, and I have tf2 to run on the Radeon Card, or High Performance. Idk what else I could do

Have you set your anti-virus to exclude the Steam install directory? Some anti-virus programs will periodically scan stuff.

Well, if worse comes to worst you could sell a blazing headshot beacon unusual or two and get a new laptop with the money.

Have you tried the standard stuff: defrag and verify? Keep net_graph 2 open and see if the net goes whack on the parts where the game hangs and see if it's really not the internet.

Check and see if you can install new Graphics drivers: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx#1

I think the people talking about checking the graphics switching settings are on track.
