#38 Common Core in Off Topic

http://i.imgur.com/uePcpfB.jpg

I asked my friend who's taken math philo classes about this shit. He showed me this thing he found, saying that common core's goal is to increase mental math efficiency while also adding to critical thinking. His opinion was that some of the old was better but common core is good, especially when the calculator was basically killing any purpose of mental math, but we relied on it so much it's become a crutch and we have a hard time doing what we'd consider more complicated mental math in our head.

It sort of reminds me about a math teacher in middle school teaching algebraic equations and saying "just move this number to this side and it becomes the opposite of what it is" for the sake of easy explaining, and my algebra prof years later being like "fuck that shit that isn't how it works" and explaining it looked that way because this was what was actually happening.

#13 ESEA S17 LAN Reskins in Customization
hookyIs this going to be done for all of Invite next season? That would be amazing.

It might be a bigger hassle than we want, so we'll see what the future holds and how people respond, or how many people would want to be involved. If you haven't already, please fill out the feedback form here so we know what we can work on next time or what you'd like to see more of!

Also after some requests, client-side skins are now available for those having a tough time with the StatusSpec pack provided. Folders available here.

#1 ESEA S17 LAN Reskins in Customization

http://i.imgur.com/AzGOtIs.png

Hey guys! For those of you who tuned into the LAN last weekend, you probably noticed that the TF2 player models weren't just wearing RED/BLU - they were wearing custom uniforms, something that hasn't be done for a long since eXtelevision first did it years back. I had only 3-4 days to get about 80 reskins for every class done, and with the help of some very good friends and volunteers we managed to reach the deadline for LAN. The response so far has been largely positive, and for that I thank you for your support and your comments about them!

We're releasing the skins (with the approval of team leaders/managers) under the project name UniREform as a shoutout to eXtv's history with popularizing the jersey trend. They are v.1.0, free to use as well as modify, come with RED/BLU for all 9 classes, and are non-commercial. They can be found here: http://fwdcp.net/project/unireform/

For clientside versions, you can find those here: http://tinyurl.com/project-uniREformS17

We've also received a lot of questions as to how the skins worked, so let's answer a few of those:

How did the skins work?
The skins were actually all client-side. This means that they were only visible for the official broadcast on the ESEA Orange stream, and not visible on the game server for the players or the SourceTV broadcast server for other spectators.

The technical framework supporting the skins was the player models module of StatusSpec, which would override the model for a player with another specified model based on the plugin’s configuration. The replacement team skin models are simply the regular TF2 player models rehexed to use different materials, whose textures are then edited to create the altered appearance.

What was the rationale behind how the skins were generally designed (for each in-game team and for each competing team)?
At the beginning of the project, tsc told me that the skins not only needed to be visually distinct for each competing team, but also needed to fit in with the in-game team colors of Team Fortress 2 for the purposes of familiarity. I delivered a concept guide that basically had each of the teams' signature colours paired up with RED/BLU, as well as a decision to make a strict BLACK/WHITE rule for Medic that paralleled RED/BLU so people could tell the difference.

You can see the pitch I gave to the Teamfortress.tv production crew on the FAQ page (see below).

How will I be able to use these skins?
If you just want to play with these skins in normal gameplay, you should be able to install them as a client-side mod. These models might not work like that because they’re rehexed to use different model paths and texture paths, but you can always copy over the modified VTF textures to your custom folder in your /tf folder if that is the case.

If you want to install these for use on your server, please be advised that the brands used in these skins are owned by the respective teams (who have graciously given us the ability to create, use, and release them), so you should seek permission before using them publicly (i.e. on a server). Assuming you’ve cleared that, you can use a plugin like TF2 Model Manager on your server to replace models. Due to how the StatusSpec player models module mimics the functionality of TF2 Model Manager client-side, the models included in the VPKs should be fully compatible and ready-to-go for such use.

The rest of the FAQ in-depth can be found on the fwdcp blog post we've done about the reskins. You can read the rest of the FAQ here.

We'd also like to hear back from you guys about what you thought about the skins! We've made a feedback form which you can fill out to address the specific feedback that we have. In addition, you can talk to either me or thesupremecommander via Steam, Twitter, or TeamFortress.TV. You can give us feedback here.

We're also releasing posters of each team in 300 DPI 4K, or 1920x1080 wallpaper size. They're on our FAQ page so if you want those, get them there (see above).

Any further questions, concerns or comments, post it here! Me and tsc will do our best to respond back as best we can.
