TLDR: Tip of the Hats 2021 will feature Valorant, Overwatch, and other games but no plans for Team Fortress 2. This decision comes as a result from the pandemic, the canceled 2020 event, a desire from the staff to move away from TF2 content, and overall reduction of on-site talent.

Really hope this works out well for them, TF2 has always brought its own, amazing audience to ToTH, but I can totally get the staff wanting to feature games that they enjoy more, and are more popular these days. I imagine the Valorant viewers especially will bring in some good numbers.

A bit disappointed about the removal of TF2. However, not entirely surprised considering the previous event featured more games and TF2 less prominently. Hopefully it works out.

Sad news from the perspective of TF2 but beyond the points of aiming for a less stressful approach and adjusting to a smaller cast, if it means targetting bigger audiences in the long run and by doing so raising more money, then surely it must be seen as a half full glass kinda scenario.

Even though I tuned in for TF2 in the past (RIP Dota Fortress), I'll try to keep the tradition and chip in this year as well.

From their trello board:

Jason BaxterDecide what type of content will be shown on-stream. There has been discussion of having one game a day and excluding TF2 for this year due to a shared general lack of interest in the game [...]
I think it's safe to say we can expect people to be disappointed when they find out this is likely going to be the first event with extremely little or even no TF2 content, but it is what it is for now.

They also seem to be thinking of rebranding in the future:

Jason BaxterWe've briefly discussed the idea off/on of rebranding for various reasons.
This would also include a color/logo/naming rebrand.

inb4 TotH becomes another non-profit that gets too big, loses focus, and starts paying out huge "salaries" to the people at the top.

The jump segment is usually my favorite part of TOTH. Hopefully they have jumping in momentum mod.

At the end of the day, it's still a charity event. I can't say I'm really that bothered by the fact that tf2 isn't in it anymore. especially considering recent events with regards to Lange.

Ma3la, Bren, Sideshow, and more from the original cast have all been playing Valorant pretty exclusively.

It makes sense.

I cant agree with takes like this. Even if it slowly died, that's still money being made that goes towards a good cause.

For TF2 fans, would it suck seeing it move away from the game? Yeah, it probably would, but does it suck more for Camp One Step having something that supports the work they do die outright instead? Absolutely. Way worse. Sure, even if the returns were diminishing, it's still returns.

And I get that there's the argument of "Well if it would have diminishing returns, they should stick to TF2 because it works!". But with the followings some of the people have built across other titles, who's to even say it WOULD have had diminishing returns? Maybe some years would be rockier than others, but based on the people involved I would be genuinely stunned if it didnt keep growing. Additionally, it's incredibly difficult to feign passion where it no longer exists. Believe me, I tried casting overwatch during goats LMAO. I think they realize the passion isn't there and that forcing TF2 segments where the talent isn't interested for the sake of the audience wouldn't hit right. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Regardless, hopefully they make a spiritual successor to TotH and hopefully it manages to thrive. The people involved are all brilliant, and the cause has always been fantastic. It would be an absolute shame to not have something from them after this.

I doubt it would die there is a bunch of tipofthehats personalities that moved on from tf2 and gained even bigger audiences (like sideshow with valorant and overwatch) that could have made the event a bigger thing. I wished they just moved tipofthehats to other games than just end it. The event created so much good for so many kids, I hate seeing it end like this. Basically what KritzKast said
