#7 top5rocket blasts off into Premiership in News

It's alright Ombrack, don't blame the Englishmen for pointing out our slip-ups that drew the wrong attention for your team's debut! That is entirely our fault within the TFTV Journalism Department. We should work on prioritizing more careful attention and responsibility to sharing recorded facts, or digging deep for the correct information in a time of scarcity & inactivity on comp.tf and Liquipedia, compared to "yo is this pun good or will it fly over people's heads"

#1 CPG 2019 Photos in TF2 General Discussion

https://i.imgur.com/D0qrgFbh.jpg

Hello. One month later after a proper LAN death post-viral cough that made my ribs hurt and nearly vomit out of the sheer intensity of the cough's force (Ixy you are innocent until proven guilty because I'm merciful), I have finally processed and uploaded all the photos I took from Copenhagen Games 2019 to the Teamfortress.tv gallery.

You can find the photo gallery here or if you click on the "Galleries" tab.

There were 730 photos taken in total, and I ended up uploading around 300. I've uploaded a ton in an order that tells a story - as well as to provide enough material for the news department to use for any ETF2L articles, or any players who want some new display photos, Twitter headers, or Mumble captions to bully their teammates.

If I didn't get your photo and you wanted one, I apologize profusely. Hopefully next LAN I manage to go to I'll be able to grab a photo of you! I haven't volunteered for TFTV photojournalism in a while; this was a last minute decision to do these since I was at CPG working for Ascent, and I wondered if anybody else was doing official photos.

For this LAN, all I had was a 2014-era DSLR and a starter kit lens, and normally a better camera + lens is rented out so I don't have to get up in gamers' faces. So thanks to the gamers who let me take photos of them so up close (and a shoutout to everybody who scared the shit out of me turning to look straight into the barrel). Additionally, thanks to the gamers that let me stand on their chair to get some of these photos, as I am very vertically challenged.

I also have some bonus albums:

If anybody else has their own photos to share, you can post it to this thread too, I know a few people posted their stuff in the best LAN thread including a very exploitable Alfie meme I will take advantage of at some point in time.

#7 Rip medals in TF2 General Discussion

I can't say I didn't see this coming as a concept designer and coordinator for a lot of medals that got in (and now no longer will be in). I'm thankful for everybody who's approached me for help on the topic as well as the modelers who helped me out with my stuff and other people's stuff, especially when they make little to no money (commission is the only way you'd get paid). But the moment every update started being medal after medal and people were getting sick of it, I realized this was going to change or stop at some point.

These factors probably came into play:

  • an oversaturation of extra cosmetic models (of which I was told they could never be switched to the Action Slot, and thus probably bogs down the game even more than it does now)
  • incredibly easy acceptance process, which means people exploiting it for free Self-Made items (e.g. Journey to the East workshop contest hosted by absolute pieces of shit who harassed workshoppers and wanted freebies, 20 contributors listed on 1 medal because they all wanted the sparkles)
  • no quality check before accepting the models (e.g. Brasil Fortress' first medals, I'm sorry modeler I will call you out there's no way you should have gotten greenlit and Valve should have told you to revise)
  • abuse of passing out medals (e.g. admins who passed them out to friends or did it for ez freebie Genuine items in-game, see Self-Made controversy above for the sparkly version of this)
  • abuse of selling medals (e.g. non-charity incentives; the only time this was ever okay'd was ESA Rewind II and this was due to a miscommunication)

I mentioned this to friends and on the TF2 Emporium Discord, but medals really did help get people to pay attention to many community events that Valve simply did not have the time or interest in helping promote. Events such as Potato's custom MvM community missions, the Beginnings 5 speedrun/trickjump/racing competition, general competitive TF2 things such as league medals and tournament medals, and charity efforts like Rally Call, FLAN, Blapature Co, Hugstf, and Tip of the Hats. The explosion and high participation when Highlander first became popularized was, IIRC, due to the incentive of getting an exclusive in-game item.

If they are looking into other ways to help support this stuff, I appreciate it, but I'm not hopeful that they'll figure it out on time, especially for any TF2-exclusive charity groups whose donation numbers will get hit by this. People who would have already gotten medals in previous years and might not feel the need to re-donate if the medal isn't new. If anything, I hope established charity events will be the events to get the most wiggle room right now while they're still figuring it out. I am happy they're letting certain events and leagues recycle medals already in the game, but that restriction was put into place for leagues a while back.

#29 My best LAN so far in LAN Discussion

I've got the absolute worst post-LAN death right now but I'm hoping to find the energy and time to muster up some shoutouts in the shoutout thread, as well as process all the photos I took this LAN while standing on everybody's wobbly chairs and peering way too closely over people's shoulders. So happy I was able to fly out to another CPG, I had a lot of fun and I appreciated all the hard work and games everybody put in. Here's looking forward to next year!

#11 Do you sexually stimulate yourself using bread? in The Dumpster
Rebitewhy do you know this exists uberchain.

I read an article on the history of dildos that stated around thousands of years ago, the ancient Athens and Greeks really liked using leather dildos. However, if they didn't use or could afford leather dildos, phallic stale baguettes as sex toys were an affordable option. According to various sources, it was used by both men and women and the reason speculated as to "why bread" was that stale bread dildos were discreet, easy to make, and easily disposable. Whether or not it was meant for ritualistic purposes or sexual gratification is more debated than if the bread dildo thing is actually true, but it seems believable enough that it would be a thing.

For the record I refuse to believe none of you haven't thought about bread dildos before when the Sandwich Lady exists.
