#14 LF DM/MGE Soldier mentor/partner, details inside in Mentoring

Thank you, everyone! I'm more than surprised by how many people responded to here! I'll be having multiple buddies, because I'm sure all of you are very busy people.

flippersid be down.. add me.

Done. Thanks.

capnfapnI'd be down to do scout vs soldier mge wth you :>

For sure! Soldier v Scout might be my weakest matchup. :/

thrasherIMO you are better off with DM servers. MGE is all "jump up, shoot down, don't miss". It's good for working on your aim, but it does nothing to help you with game sense, plus it teaches you bad habits. DM isn't perfect either (there is no substitute for actually playing a scrim/match) but DM is more realistic since you are dealing with multiple enemies at the same time. If I were you I would spend more time on DM servers.

Yeah, I'm definitely on that track. Slowly transitioning from training to training while trying to maintain scrims.

nero"dont shoot where you think they will be, shoot where you know they cant avoid it" -Ripperman aka best MGE mentor ever

Simple, yet so solid. Love it.

mplaying dm as a soldier is an absolute waste of time

I think until a certain point DM helps quite a bit; I'm still shaky on certain fundamentals.

zigzterYou could be getting better at TF2 instead of arguing about how to get better in a thread made by someone who wants to get better.

wat

Thanks! :)

bl4nkif you play dm and mge as soldier, stay on the ground and try to hit every shot. glhf

Will do, thanks for the advice (big fan here!).

#9 Why cant we +frag articles in Site Discussion

I wrote the enigma/harbleu interview article, and before that I was an amateur games journalist reviewing games and writing about game design.

reilly makes an excellent point about one type of journalism; reporting. The other hand is editorials.

The reason that there aren't upfrags and downfrags on articles, at least in my interpretation, is that up/downfrags are used to validate an opinion. An inflammatory comment would receive downfrags (ideally) and a well-spoken, fact-driven comment would receive upfrags. Since all the article writers are curated to a decent extent (through enigma), all of them are held to a journalistic standard (which is not to be inflammatory, be informative, and be fact-driven), thus it's far more useful to communicate with the article writer through comments (and/or discussion with others!) rather than through up/downfrags.

Plus, it's awesome to see your own article with lots of congratulatory comments AND upfrags on those. It's the best. <3

#1 LF DM/MGE Soldier mentor/partner, details inside in Mentoring

Hi, I'm currently a pocket on an open team, and I feel like at the moment my DM is the weakest part of my skillset. I'd like a buddy who wouldn't mind practicing MGE and DM a lot (with the rest of my team, too, when they're around). I would also kill to have someone knowledgeable about 1v1 matchups (doesn't even have to be just Soldier, either), especially on different maps. I learn very fast, especially if I have some direction on what to do.

In short, looking for:
* DM partner (does not have to be soldier main)!
* Likes being asked a LOT of questions! Talking extensively on analysis is a PLUS!
* Free during the nights and weekends, at least some/a couple of those days (I have a standard work schedule in the west coast; I usually return around 6-7 PM on weekdays). Flexible!
* Hanging out!
* Anything more than this is fantastic, but definitely not necessary.

#13 So Twitch John and I walk into a restaurant... in TF2 General Discussion
MapleTwitchTVJohnMapleLeap in the dark here, but are those pictures from a restaurant near El Cerrito BART? It looks damn familiar.
Katana Ya in downtown SF.

Also, I get on BART at El Cerrito daily. What part of the city are you in? I'm in Marina Bay.

I'm down in Berkeley but I have a few very good friends up around there and I go to Bridges Rock Gym quite frequently.

I have an event I'm planning around the Bay area (I'm in Berkeley as well); I didn't realize how many TF2 people there were around here until I started asking around.

It's actually in SF, so you aren't terribly far off (I think I know what area/plaza you're referring to!).

Just kidding. We talked about last night's...incident, general trends of eSports and twitch.tv's role in it.

We just have to keep playing the game, winning the matches, and streaming; so, you guys know what to do. Make the noise, spread the word.

P.S.: all of us have some potentially big projects for competitive TF2 in the pipeline for everyone. Can't name anything yet, though. :)

Well, a bunch of us are going, we just haven't organized it. We can either just mob rush a section or just register.

How many people per chaperone? I don't mind volunteering too. Also, screw it, should we just try to take a block?

sonnyjaboyI don't mind a mumble get-together. Capn added me so... yeah. Sure, I don't mind seeing how this turns out for us. =D

He added me as well. We'll figure it out very soon, presumably. :)

Folks, if we're planning to buy seats next to each other, we should do it relatively soon because there aren't that many blocks of open seats left (I'm talking two empty rows according to their setup). I propose we all sit in someone's mumble one day and decide. Perhaps even this weekend? Anyone else have an opinion otherwise?

That said, woohoo, Seattle. Have not been there in a long while. :)
