Main question is basically how do I know which one is active? I'm a complete newbie when it comes to these kind of things so any explanation would be appreciated.

Oh btw is there a way to completely hide the taskbar? If you see closely you can still see part of it down there. Doesn't look like much but it kinda annoys me a bit :/
