Also, the same anonymous $600 donation from the previous canceled date will be applied to this tournament's prize pool. :)

gungonIn the rule set can you make sure that round timer is set to 4 minutes? Last RGB the round timer was 10 minutes long and it felt incredibly dated to play.

Yep, done.

sandblast1 day will be way too much and long to play. 2 day would be the best solution, ig like 30min map timer and 4min round timer.

I've thought about this numerous times before. Some people have inquired about doing group stage on Friday, and while this isn't a bad idea, not everyone can make it to LAN at a decent time on Friday. The best we'd be able to push to Sunday is just grand finals, but it'd have to start at like 10 AM because the network gets cut off sometime around noon or shortly after.

I do understand that it can be a lot of TF2 in one day, especially for a team that gets sent to losers early but makes a deep run. A few LANs ago, I asked teams if they wanted to skip the group stage entirely just so there'd be less TF2 (especially because it's just for seeding anyway), and out of the ~16 teams, not a single team wanted to skip group stage.

I try very diligently to make sure things run on time and as smoothly as possible. I'm definitely all for ideas if they make sense, but I just don't want to ostracize anyone who can't make it to LAN for their matches if we try to do group stage on Friday. However, this time around, I will poll the teams to see if their players can make it on Friday. If they can, we will start group stage on Friday night. If there are teams / players that will fail to make it, we'll stick to the original schedule of starting Saturday morning.

Hi all,

It's that time again. :3

Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, Hall E
100 Station Ave.
Oaks, PA 19456

START: February 16, 2024
END: February 18, 2024

Tickets
https://lanfest.tixr.com/rgblan6

What is the closest airport to the venue?
Philadelphia International Airport - PHL

What are the details of the hotel?
The following two hotels are extremely close to each other and about a mile from the venue.
Hilton Garden Inn Valley Forge/Oaks
Hampton Inn & Suites Valley Forge/Oaks

Regarding hotels, both nearby hotels are extremely busy and not steadily replying to us at the moment. Due to how quickly these hotels fill up, I'd suggest buying a hotel room now instead of waiting. If we do eventually get a block code, I'll post it here right away.

Can I play in other tournaments? And when is the TF2 tournament?
You may only play in other tournaments if and when you’ve been eliminated from the TF2 tournament. There are no tournaments on Sunday.
Team signup deadline: Friday (2/16) at 6:30 PM
Group stage: Friday (2/16) at 7 PM
Double elimination: Saturday (2/17) at 11 AM

If someone on your team can't make a group stage match in time, you may use a ringer. Just a reminder that group stage is used only for seeding and no one gets eliminated.

If anyone wants to complete their first round match of double elimination on Friday night, you'll be allowed as long as both teams agree.

Will there be rental computers and monitors?

Rentals can be purchased through the checkout process after you've selected a BYOC ticket. The deadline to get your rental is January 31st. It's possible that selections of rentals will be sold out before then. Additionally, the new ticketing system doesn't easily allow us to make changes to existing tickets, whether it's adding on a rental or changing your seat. If you think you might purchase a rental, just purchase the rental with your ticket and let us know if you need a refund if you decide you don't need it. Likewise, if you need to change your seat, it's easiest to refund your ticket and then buy a new ticket with your desired seat.

FAQ – TF2 tournament (DETAILS TENTATIVE)

How can I play in the tournament?
You’ll need to find a team if you haven’t already found one. Keep in mind that the tournament will be 6 vs 6. This thread will have plenty of teams looking for players, so make sure to post here (and don’t forget to include what class you play). If you can’t find a team, there will certainly be pick-up teams made while at the event.

Will there be a buy-in for the tournament?
Yes, it is $5 per person (or $30 per team).

What will the prizes and payout be?
1st Place: 60% of total prize pool + additional prizes TBA
2nd Place: 30% of total prize pool
3rd Place: 10% of total prize pool

I’m interested in sponsoring the tournament with cash and/or prizes. How should I contact you about this?
Contact us here: https://rgblan.org/contact

What is the format of the tournament?
6 players per team. There will be a group stage (for seeding) followed by double elimination.

What are the rules?
Class-limits (NA rules):

2 Scouts
2 Soldiers
2 Pyros
1 Demoman
1 Heavy
1 Engineer
1 Medic
1 Sniper
2 Spy

Time-limit / win-limit (EU/NA hybrid rules):

30 minute time-limit, 4 minute round-timer
If a team wins 5 rounds (or 3 on koth), that team wins.
If the game is tied after 30 minutes, the tiebreaker will be decided by golden cap. If this occurs in group stage, there will be a 10 minute time limit, and if there is no victor by that time, then whoever controls mid is the winner. If this occurs in the double elimination bracket, there will be no time limit for golden cap.

What maps will be in use?
Whatever the current RGL map pool is at the time.

===

Post in the thread if you need a team.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the thread or PM me.

#39 Competitve horror stories? in TF2 General Discussion

The infamous match where Fully Torqued lost to Vector Gaming on Gravelpit.

For the entire week that we had to scrim Gravelpit, our team could not agree on how we wanted to play the map. On defense, half of our team wanted to play a more defensive approach where we'd let Justin snipe, and the other half wanted to play an aggressive approach in a forward position. The problem is that any time we'd try to commit to one strategy, it'd fail horribly. We'd then try the other strategy, which would also fail horribly. We kept going back and forth about which strategy to use, and things got really sour quickly. I think we were decent on offense, but that's obviously meaningless if our defense gets blown wide-open.

We got shit on in scrims by every Invite team during the entire week, and I'm pretty sure we lost to some IM teams in scrims as well. By the time we were ready to play our match, we felt slightly better about our strategy, but it still didn't feel great. I honestly can't remember what kind of strategy we went with, or maybe we did some kind of hybrid strategy of both.

Should we have beat Vector? Of course, but it honestly wasn't that surprising to us considering how awful that entire week of practice was. We never had disagreements on any other map before or after that. However, Vector still had to execute and play well to do what they did, so hats off to them. :]

Just in case anyone is curious about the picture above, that's the speedrunning area. Speedrunning had wrapped up for the event, so I guess the area got repurposed for TF2, lol. But as Dolphin said, everyone sat behind the players anyway.

I don't have any photos, but I did want to say that it makes me genuinely happy to see everyone so euphoric to be together. I'll keep saying this, but as long as everyone keeps showing up for the TF2 tournament at RGB, then you'll never have to worry about it going away.

#8 RGB lan shoutouts thread in LAN Discussion

I'll just copy and paste what I wrote before this thread was made.

I appreciate the hell out of everyone who made the event. Very competitive event with great vibes. :3 I also want to commend everyone for cooperating and not disappearing / delaying the brackets almost at all.

It was great to see so many familiar faces, as well as lots of new faces! Hoping everyone had a great time, and hopefully I'll see everyone at our next event on June 23rd-25th 2023 with TooManyGames!

I need teams paid up by 10:30 AM on Saturday (1/21). Group stage will be starting at 11 AM, and I do not want to delay anything due to people rolling in late. Please spread the word on this. I will be saying this constantly to everyone on Friday, so there's no excuse if you show up late on Saturday and "didn't know."

You can find me at the admin table to pay me in-person. Cash only, so no Venmo / PayPal or anything.

---

After group stage, there will be about an hour lunch break. After that, the double-elimination bracket will start. It is imperative that this bracket goes as quickly as possible, especially the losers bracket. Literally every single event, either some player or team disappears for like 1-2 hours without telling me, which causes a heavy delay. I have come within minutes of being ready to hand out disqualifications for this, so please do not test my patience on this. I try my ass off to make sure the tournament runs as smoothly as possible, as well as finishing at a decent time. On top of this, I have other tournaments to run, so please be respectful of my time and everyone else's.

Reminder that the deadline for laptop rentals ends at 11:59 PM ET on 1/7.

You must add the laptop rental to your ticket (if you haven't already done so) by then. Monitor rentals do not have a deadline.

hannahRumor has it Alfa is coming to lan? Can we please stop this guy from coming considering past events

I have spent dozens of hours on this during 2022. After many interviews and reviews, I determined that it was best he doesn't go. I can confirm he's not attending the LAN and he knows this.
