#22 Hackers in dm in TF2 General Discussion
tsarSomeone who goes through the effort to get cheats that work on VAC protected servers - i.e. ones that cost money - won't be stopped by having to buy an account over level 5. There's a surprisingly big black market for stolen, inactive, leveled steam accounts or someone can just level it up themselves. It's not that hard to get 500xp on steam. There really isn't a downside.

EDIT: also if you truly believe that the level cap reduces cheaters, why allow low level people on the servers that allow sniper aka the most unfun server to play against a cheater on.

I can only speak for myself, but the cheater listed in this thread is the only one I have encountered (at least that I recognized) since the level cap was added. So yes, I believe it reduces cheaters.

I agree that getting a level 5 account is not a huge effort by itself, but I do think that it's a significant step up in effort from simply creating a new account every time you get banned.

Again, we need DATA on how effective the level ban has been at reducing cheaters (+ its effect on overall playerbase) to argue this solidly, or else we will just theorycraft around each other's arguments into eternity.

I agree that removing the level cap for the sniper servers would be a bad move, but I still think that it warrants testing, since I too would enjoy DM servers that are alive for more of the day.

AptYou know what the difference between all these examples you listed is and the issue I'm bringing up? Not only are the scenarios listed far more serious than arguing over a server setting in a videogame, but none of these scenarios require you to even operate at a loss afterwords. They're no-brainer decisions. There are literally only benefits from protecting your house/data/wearing a seat-belt.

You enable the level restriction to keep out a few hackers and suddenly all the people who used to frequent DM with a steam account below level 5 no longer get to play there and the server stays empty for far longer into the evening/night.

I see and understand this, and had a sentence about it in my original response, dude. I'm just going to paste it again here.

ShearsAptNA DM is more dead than now from the level requirement than it ever was because some 12 year old decided to test his premium cheats there.
This I might agree with, but I'd need to see actual data on numbers of cheaters and the overall DM playerbase.

More constructively, I think changing all 6 tftv DM servers without consulting actual data would be a dumb move, but I would support changing the #3 Chicago and #3 Dallas servers to no-level-cap just as an experiment to see if it really would bring more casual players back.

Aptif people want to cheat that badly they're going to find a way to bypass the requirement anyways

I see this "well if people want [x] badly enough they will find a way to get it anyways so there's no point in doing [y] to make it harder" argument a lot and there is a huge logical flaw with it.

Very simply, making it harder to cheat DOES deter many cheaters, even if it doesn't net 100%. Even with the ones who do persevere, it makes the costs (literal $, time, and/or effort) higher per attempt. In my experience, the level cap has been a huge deterrent to cheaters, raising the cost of a cheating attempt from merely the time it takes to make a new account to the effort and money needed to find and buy a level 5 account.

To throw out just a few analogies:
-If people want to rob your house badly enough they will find a way in, but that doesn't mean you stop locking your doors or that you disable your security system, because those will still continue to keep out the common criminal!
-If a hacker wants your data badly enough they will find a way around your antivirus software -- but that doesn't mean that you should disable it, saying that there's "no point!"
-It was a long time before wearing a seatbelt in a car became a legal requirement in the U.S.. Nowadays, you will still have the occasional idiot who doesn't wear one (notably including my older brother, who rolled a pickup without a seatbelt when he was 16 and was lucky to escape without serious injury), but since the law requiring seatbelts passed, deaths and injuries from car crashes in the US dropped dramatically.

P.S. if you use this flawed logic to argue against gun restrictions, the same stuff applies! I believe that there are legitimate arguments against gun restrictions in the US, but this is not one of them.

AptNA DM is more dead than now from the level requirement than it ever was because some 12 year old decided to test his premium cheats there.

This I might agree with, but I'd need to see actual data on numbers of cheaters and the overall DM playerbase.

Battle Brothers is a legendary turn-based strategy game IMO. I'll also second XCOM:EU, especially with the Long War mod

Console- please tell what specific HUD elements you like/dislike so we know what we can change to improve current HUD :)

I really like team health bars personally, it's a speedy way for me as a viewer to track how teamfights are developing in general without having to look at the health bars of 12 individual players and miss onscreen action.

#9 Top 10 TF2 plays - October 2018 in Videos
unfiabooyea i agree, but then again, how is a soldier hitting 3 insane airshots in a row and carrying his team in a top premiership match less top play than a random pyro airblasting hitting a double reflect airshot?

FTFY

LuckyLukeI definitely count wow-factor highly.

Luke already answered your question, I'm not sure why you're asking the same thing again with different wording :/

I'm not saying you should agree with him, it just seems like he explained his thinking and you just can't comprehend that he might see the value of those clips differently than you do.

JenkinsI'm not sure what your specific computer specs are, what program you're using, or the specific problems you're having, but if you're still interested in editing this and potentially other projects in the future there are a few things that can be done to help alleviate some of the burden on your PC when you're editing stuff.

If you want, add me on Steam and I can try and help out if possible, cause I know it sucks when you're really motivated to do a project of some sort and you can't because of shit out of your control.

One of the reasons I've stopped making TF2 content for the time being is that After Effects runs like ass on my PC (Premiere is okay) so I'd love to hear any tips you have for making my computer a bit more capable.

#11 I require game suggestions in Other Games

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a great turn-based strategy game with lots of RPG elements for your individual soldiers (and permadeath). The base game is great, but there's also a mod for it called Long War that turns everything up to 11 and is one of my favorite games ever.

This series gives a good idea of the base game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9zJE9GodMQ
(if you're interested in the mod as well that channel has tons of videos on that too)

Battle Brothers is another great turn-based strategy game in the same style.

Either of these are good picks if you want something a bit different. The depth of strategy in either title is incredible.

#58 Would you like to see TF2 come to ESL Play? in TF2 General Discussion

As others in this thread have said,

for NA TF2, this would not create a new league, but would just be the modification of ESEA (quite possibly leading to better support?).

IMO it's hard to see this as anything other than a win/win for NA TF2.

As for EU/OCE/SA, I'd recommend that ESL reach out to admins and community leaders of the existing leagues there as well and see what kinds of opportunities there might be for working together.

Would love to see big TF2 events on ESL streams at some point :)
