Why do the servers require "maintenance" on a weekly basis? Why do all the servers have to go down at once? Why does Valve think it's a good idea to perform maintenance at the exact time people are getting home from work to play games, instead of early in the day?

Games like Eve Online managed to figure out how to run with little to no downtime, why can't Valve?

They don't lose money on people playing HL tributes. HDTF is $10 on Steam, so they actually make money off that garbage. If people go to play improved versions of TF2 they aren't being forced to stare at crate roulette; Valve can't have that.

It's sad that there are any longtime members of the TF2 community, and especially the competitive subset, that think Valve sees TF2 as anything more than a casino from which it can leech money by adding more hats. These mods remove the main source of income in TF2, so it's extremely unlikely they're interested in incorporating them into the main game.

In all likelihood, they utilize leaked source code and Valve isn't cool with that. Why else would it be necessary to suspend new downloads? The reason twitter says "temporarily suspended" is imo because they're still figuring out the legalese of these mods existing. Until one of these mod devs explicitly come out and say otherwise, you are just setting yourselves up for yet another disappointment by believing anything else.

Adding my voice to those complaining about autobalance. It's incredibly annoying: it happens too often, it is disorienting to switch colors so frequently, and it is both capable of happening invisibly between lives, and of killing you mid life. I am so sick of dying mid jump and mid fight for no reason.

Even worse is that balance is a total non issue in DM, both in practice and in a more literal sense. In practice because even if you're getting steamrolled, you respawn so quickly that you will still get into fights alongside your teammates, get good practice and accrue kills--and then literally, because neither team wins in DM, making the entire concept of team balance irrelevant. Just remove it altogether, please.

It doesn't help that picking teams takes a fucking year on it's own even if the pug doesn't get killed. Back when I would try to add up, captains would incredibly frequently get like 90% of the way through picking teams and then kill the pug. Someone like me who would usually have to wait for B pugs would, more often than not, literally have to wait 45+ minutes.

RGL announced in April, but the season didn't start until August. I recall feeling that they had straight up lied about when their season was gonna start specifically to undercut NACL, implying an early July season start, but ESEA playoffs didn't even end until July 23. However, I don't see any mention of when season 1 started on their website other than this line, tucked away under Survey: "We will then review the results and make announce the changes we will make prior to July 1st. This way teams will still have several weeks to understand any changes that are happening before the start of the season."

Meanwhile, the people who wound up trying to run NACL made this post before the initial RGL announcement. They followed up with a more official thread on June 30. I believe the site was functional by this point. And once RGL inevitably announced a delay two days later, because "oh lol right we have to wait for esea to end, silly us!" there was no fucking excuse for us as a community to not switch over. There is, undeniably, a full month from June 30 until August 16 where NACL was clearly a viable option. I feel the New Beginnings post extends that grace period all the way back to April. So stop trying to blame the NACL staff for our stupid fucking decisions as a community, for fuck's sake.
