The only use you could get out of Valve is official exposure, but which won't amount to much when people play the game primarily for hats and memes. Unlike Quake or CS, there is no ingrained competitive culture in TF2. This is a game where the average user comes in to do "friendly pootis heavy xd" and trade their absurd hats that spit on the game's original art direction. People who don't play the game also do not take any competitive facet seriously precisely because of how childish the mainstream image has been for the past several-something years.
With no audience comes no ad revenue. No money means no company is going to waste any real time and effort into it. They're also arrogant fools who discredit the balancing work achieved from years of competitive metagame evolution. The only "major" in any Valve-backed TF2 tournament would be its use as an adjective preceding the word "disappointment".
Make yourself comfortable in this niche that passionate and hardworking people have put together, because it's the most we'll ever see.
These two motherfuckers right here: https://youtu.be/Qbl4XtPneG0?t=2m10s
Miss them
This is a slowly dying game and any monetary gain you get out of it is far less than minimum wage when you take into account how many hours you put into winning a tournament. It makes no sense to play the game if not for the fun that comes from it. Why would you play in a team you hate to be in? Whether you're winning or losing, you're not having fun, so what's the point? Momentary internet glory in a niche community?
And since we're on the topic: far too many teams will cut players that are "not good enough" and likewise far too many players will leave teams that are "not good enough" for them- or in your case, you leave a team because it is "too good" for you. What people should be focusing on is assembling teams with friends / people they enjoy playing with and then progress together. How many teams have been destroyed because of this delusional glory-seeking mentality? How many hundreds of players sit in recruitment Hell because they have convinced themselves that they belong somewhere higher than they actually do?
It is a competitive mindset indeed, but it is an exaggerated one and it harms the spirit of the game. Everyone is after instant victory, instant reward, instant gratification; and 'lo and behold all the drama and toxicity that follows when the illusion is shattered and they lose games.
"You don't try hard enough"
"You don't review enough demos"
"You don't pay attention to maptalks"
"You don't practice enough DM"
"You don't complete enough jump maps"
You should only subject yourself to all of this if and only if:
A) The financial reward is worth it
B) You and your team enjoy the experience of improving together
You lack both A and B, so why subject yourself through the torment any further?
Go and have fun, mate. If you don't like the team then leave.
stop giving me more reasons to be angry at valve I'm already mad
woops wrong thread 8)
The only way you can help those with issues is to provide them with kindness, speaking from the perspective of someone who's been on both sides.
At the end of the day, this is a computer game where the prize money at the highest level is laughable. You don't dedicate so many hours into it to make a living out of it, you do it because it's something you find enjoyable. The worst thing he did (based from what I could gather here) was temporarily upset a few people's gaming experience. He didn't harm anyone's "career", he made a few sweaty nerds who give more importance to a game than the mental healthcare of someone angry.
nuttynutnutlol puo fucked up

Haven't played in 9 years is Reptile still around?
For the rest of you Workshop creators, consider this a call to action for all things tropical over the next few months: particles, maps, items and anything else.
particles, (...) items
It's going to be your generic gimmicky-themed update with soon-to-be dead content (that isn't even made by the game's own devs, no less) used as an excuse to pump out more cosmetic crap. Color me surprised.
How do we fix Valve?
My name is John, and I hate every single one of you.
