#5 Meet the Broken Flamethrower in TF2 General Discussion

So your point on the "-4" damage showing up in the ~4 min area actually has nothing to do with base flamethrower damage that's afterburn tick damage which on stock flamethrower happens to be 4 damage. You do take your crosshair off the enemy quite often so some of those damage numbers are probably similar to the wall bug damage you showed. That and when you're above a player and the flames are bouncing off the ground...

Plus what about the bug where you only need to keep your crosshair on someone for ~5% of the time to do ~75% of the DPS???

#768 Comanglia's Config / FPS Guide in Customization

Sorry I haven't got around to actually pushing this out. Been hung up on a lot of commands mostly for aesthetic reasons since very very few people are ever GPU bound. However some people have integrate GPUs and some (potentially most) people may prefer the aesthetic of lower settings.

mat_reducefillrate
mat_picmip
mat_forceaniso
mat_antialias - this command would be commented out but for general recommendation

Currently I'm favoring these settings

mat_reducefillrate 0
mat_picmip -1
mat_forceaniso 4
//mat_antialias 2 // again commented out

another major holdup is setting a default "rate" largely because of how common it still is for people to have sub 1Mbps upload speed, and how various leagues handle "cl_interp_ratio" generally I was planning on setting it to 1 but my recommendation would be setting it to 2 for primarily hitscan classes but some leagues force the ratio to 1 making cl_interp the preferred way of setting it :/

There's also a couple other things such as formatting and splitting the sections up into different files to make it a bit easier where to find certain commands but that comes with it's own problem of not just being able to search 1 file for what you're looking for...

To give you an idea of what I'm talking about this is what autoexec.cfg looks like

exec NoTutorial.cfg // Disables Tutorial prompts
//exec SteamController.cfg	// Settings for Steam Controllers
exec HUDNotifications.cfg	// Contracts, Vote UI, Achievement tracking, Killstreaks, Chat
exec HUDGeneral.cfg // Most HUD settings can be found here.
exec UserPreferences.cfg	// User Preferences including hitsounds, damage numbers, FOV,
// viewmodels, crosshair, closed captions, ingame demo settings, etc.
exec NetSettings.cfg // You'll find most/all net settings here including match making settings
exec Sound.cfg // Most/All sound settings can be found here including volume.
exec gfxc.cfg // The main part of the performance config
//exec TransparentViewmodels.cfg // Uncomment this if you use TransparentViewmodels

#123 ESEA to drop tf2 after season 31??? in TF2 General Discussion

Honestly didn't think UGC TF2 was going to outlast ESEA TF2 after the RGL switch for most of HL...

That being said I'm not surprised, and it was a bad deal for both sides. ESEA lost money on TF2 and the vast majority of players were losing money on ESEA cause it was a shit service with a client that did basically nothing but add a whole new layer of possible problems for playing a match.

The anti-cheat client hasn't caught a single ESEA player for any kind of cheating in years, the only ones I know of being manual bans and very likely retard CSGO players leaving the client open and cheating in pubs, considering the handful of players that got a "TF2" detection all had 0 seasons of experience in TF2 but had experience in CS or at least CS pugs. Worst part about it if you search really hard you can find evidence of cheat bans for CSS using a lot of the same kind of exploits currently being used in ESEA TF2 (seriously right down to the exact same file and equivalent install location).

Not to mention the massive amount of Bad PR ESEA has gotten over the years from a shitty owner and the whole bitcoin fiasco. Potential Players who heard about that had even less reason to try it, even if it's several years later.

That being said fuck Valve for shit support and shit MM next to no one wants to try competitive in a game were ELO based MM isn't really a thing, isn't balanced at all and hasn't received a balance update in over a year. While offering no money for tournaments like they do in CSGO and Dota and were going to do in Artifact.

edit
Sorry about my pessimism ESEA dropping TF2 just kinda adds fuel to the fire of how disappointed I am with how this game has progressed in the last 8 years I've been around.

#6 ~150 fps on high end PC? in Q/A Help

other than what Hexx said try these things.

  • Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
  • Enable High Performance in the Power Options. Laptop users should do so only while plugged into power.
  • Several background programs can eat up a lot of CPU resources, close them.
  • If you used to us -dxlevel 81 and you're using -dxlevel 9x (90,91,95,98,100) consider going back.
  • Disable all the Windows 10 Game bs
  • If you were on an OC'd system and you're not now that may make a large difference in some cases.
  • If you haven't cleaned out your PC in awhile you may want to get some compressed air, take your PC outside and spray out all the dust/hair that's built up.
  • Use true fullscreen and not borderless window to see if that resolves your issues.

#31 Question in TF2 General Discussion
jamalComangliaDoughy1. Is one yelling in comms when tilted better or worse than one who gets completely mute?
Yelling in Comms because you're tilted is far worse than going mute.

What yelling comms does.
  • Denies your teammates the ability to communicate with each other.
  • Makes it so your teammates can't hear ingame audio.
  • Makes it so you're unlikely to hear/process what your teammates are saying.
  • Makes it unlikely for you to hear/process in game audio ques.
  • You're directly conveying your anger to your teammates even if not directed specifically at them. This can cause a worse scenario where more members of the team Tilt.

What going mute in comms does.
  • Annoy your teammates that you're not saying anything.

Both are bad but 1 is definitely worse than the other. The only time yelling in comms is ok is if it's to bring immediate attention to something specific to accomplish a goal. Ex. 1. WE POPPED UBER WE'RE ENDING HERE. 2. THEY'RE ALL LOOKING AT ME PUSH NOW! 3. SPY ON OUR MEDIC!!!

If you can get a decent hold on your tilt relatively quickly yelling for ~30s of match is far better than being mute for 5+ minutes.
theres a huge difference between venting for 10 seconds vs tilting for the rest of a map and projecting your anger on your teammates. Im perfectly fine with option 1 over my teammate going mute for the rest of the game.

It's also perfectly fine to go mute for 30s rather than rage for 2 minutes. But now we're both just being overly pedantic.

funhaver1998i kno there's a scrim where habib switches to soldier and does it the entire game and screams his mind off on youtube but thats because drugs has warped his brain to below his age

Just noticed this.

Have to say that ADHD (especially the hyperactive type) and the medications for it also play a large factor in something like this.

some symptoms

nimh.nih.govSigns of hyperactivity and impulsivity may include:
  • Being unable to play or engage in hobbies quietly
  • Being constantly in motion or “on the go,” or acting as if “driven by a motor”
  • Talking nonstop
  • Blurting out an answer before a question has been completed, finishing other people’s sentences, or speaking without waiting for a turn in conversation
  • Interrupting or intruding on others, for example in conversations, games, or activities

I removed a fair number of them that aren't related to the topic at hand at all.

Also doesn't help when some of the medications for ADHD tend to have side affects that can increase agitation.

Not saying people with ADHD Hyperactive type can't handle tilt/anger/stress, it's just more difficult for them than most. Just take look at how bad Ninja can get...

#20 KovaaK's FPS Aim Trainer Launch Trailer in TF2 General Discussion
snwdrmhttps://store.steampowered.com/app/824270/KovaaKs_FPS_Aim_Trainer/

epic necro for the -45% sale right now
it's by no means better than playing tf2 for improving your tf2 aim, but it's a tool that definitely has its uses - building confidence, mouse control, and isolating specific areas of your aim to improve on.

The way the scenarios are presented means that pretty much all new players will end up playing Tile Frenzy (or some derivative) which teaches you literally nothing about anything, so try these instead:
Bounce 180 (any and all variations of this are good)
Bounce 180 Tracking (same applies)
patTargetSwitch (+v2)
1wall5targets_pasu
Air
Ground Plaza
Close Fast Strafes Invincible (Shotgun if you hate yourself)
Close Long Strafes Invincible

would like to see some more tf2 players on the leaderboards!

Definitely would recommend to people as well. I really enjoy the bounce 180 scenarios. Think I'm just outside top100 for the main one.

Tile Frenzy gamemodes are pretty much only good for quickly adjusting fast general movement within 40fov to a new sensitivity, precise movements/tracking people definitely need to move away from the tile frenzy modes asap.

for most people I recommend doing these scenarios first

Bounce 180
Close Long Strafes Invincible
1wall5targets_pasu
1wall6targets TE - spend less time on this one than any of the other ones.

Atm, I'm not sure what scenarios would be really good for Soldier/Demoman primaries though

-edit
I've been told that most of the quake rocket launcher ones can have the weapon copied and you can up the projectile speed by 10% and you'll get the same projectile speed as tf2.

#88 Cheating to hear spies is painfully easy. in TF2 General Discussion
cookieComangliajust a massive pain in the ass to confirm whether or not a server is setup correctly for scrims/league matches. How can I make sure that my server is properly configured to prevent this?

Technically what Pete posted should work.

Pete
	sound\... trusted_source
	models\... trusted_source
	materials\... trusted_source
	particles\... trusted_source
	scripts\game_sounds.txt trusted_source
	scripts\game_sounds_manifest.txt trusted_source
	scripts\game_sounds_player.txt trusted_source
	scripts\game_sounds_vo.txt trusted_source
	scripts\game_sounds_vo_handmade.txt trusted_source
	scripts\game_sounds_weapons.txt trusted_source
	scripts\soundmixers.txt trusted_source

Now in the testing I did was confirm that sv_pure 1 when setup similarly to the above did in fact work and looking through my notes technically sv_pure 2 works as well for some of them as well.

The main problem I ran into however was this works more or less identically to how people used to get flat textures / game banana wall hacks to work or partially work in sv_pure 2. You had to preload all the custom files on a sv_pure 0 server 1st and then join straight into the sv_pure 2 server. Valve patched this by making all sound/materials/particles get reloaded upon joining a server. However this likely isn't done for files in the scripts directory partially because the game references a lot of files in that directory even when not in a server and likely was just a general oversight by Valve.

Technically speaking waiting for all clients to join a server that's setup as sv_pure 1 (as configured above) or 2 and then reloading the map should set them to default TF2 settings for scripts such as these (it's been awhile since I specifically tested this so my memory is a bit hazy)

If for some reason you are a user of 1 of these scripts and specifically the one I talk about in the video I linked snd_restart resets you to default settings for these scripts if you're in a sv_pure 1 (with the whitelist pete posted) or 2 server.

Another reason I mentioned sv_pure 1 with a whitelist is because there's potential for server logging (likely requires a plugin) for failed checks on "trusted_source" files/directories and can potentially help teams/players/leagues/admins find players using said exploits.

#85 Cheating to hear spies is painfully easy. in TF2 General Discussion

Goodluck getting Valve to respond to this or do anything at all. I've reported multiple ways of changing various settings in TF2 that can be used as exploits over the years and the vast majority of which haven't been patched in anyway.

BTW there's a few other ways of editing the Spy Cloak volume along with a shit ton of other sounds. There's a specific one that I reported to Valve over a year ago at this point and again a few months later that hasn't been addressed and works in sv_pure 1 and sv_pure 2 by default. Though sv_pure 1 can be configured to block it and a ton of other ones including the one posted about and explained in this thread, just a massive pain in the ass to confirm whether or not a server is setup correctly for scrims/league matches.

Was about to mention how one of the top teams in open has 2 players on it that actively used some of the spydecloak scripts enough to get banned in UGC&RGL, but fortunately that team died.

https://i.imgur.com/WH1FZJR.png

https://i.imgur.com/PJHh7mE.png

SpaceGhostsCoffeeComanglia made a video on this recently, it's more than just hearing spies. You quiet/louden any game sound you want, so you can make footsteps, decloaks, and the uber crackling noise really loud and everything else quiet. It's really really dumb

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K903iCTtewY

Technically speaking the one mentioned in this thread and how to do it, isn't the same. Yes you can replace the sounds but you can't actually keep the stock one and make it louder with the one in the OP. The one I posted is FAR worse.

The short of it is that you can change the volume of every sound file in the game

Things to mention specifically though just to hammer in how game breaking this can be.

  • Medics getting and Holding uber/kritz +
  • Medics using uber/kritz +
  • Uber fading/kritz +
  • Footsteps +
  • Spy Cloaking/Decloaking individually at that you can keep stock volume for cloaking and louder decloaks +
  • Sentry Gun beeps +
  • All class voice lines
  • Ambient Sounds +
  • Sticky Bomb "arming" that little beep sound stickies make when ready to detonate
  • Sticky Bomb colliding/sticking to a surface +
  • All Weapon Sounds individually to basically every weapon (some reuse sounds) and even down to the actual firing or just reloading or vice versa
  • Ammo/Health respawning +
  • Ammo/Health pickup +
  • Explosions I'd imagine most people would make this quieter +

+ = I fully confirmed this can work with this file edit. The rest I didn't bother trying because I could already do 99% of the other things I tried.

I can continue for a shit ton of other super low-key things that actually could be really important (see Ammo/Health respawn and pickup currently it's so rarely heard it's unimportant), to the super obviously important (ex. decloaks, guaranteed uber knowledge, stickybomb placement, etc.

Oh, and one final last tidd bit about it. You can change the volume by such a low-key amount it would be difficult for anyone to confirm you're actually doing so even if you stream, so long as you have some low-music in the background. The Volume change can be as little as +1% or -1% possibly less or as much as +/-100% to +/-1000% depending on the file.

Edit1

Please continue to report this to Valve. Especially if you rarely send them feedback.

@Valve: If for some reason one of you actually reads this, pls check you feedback email link. I'm assuming my email address is included since it's a required field. Just look for "Comanglia" in there you'll find my gmail address. If you have issues finding a report referencing this I'm not hard to find.

https://steamcommunity.com/id/Comanglia/

For those curious, I'd rather have Valve reach out to me at this point because I'm leaning heavily towards feedback that includes my email is either blocked/filtered, or at least that's what I hope is going on.

Edit2

Someone ping me in 30 days, I'll explain to everyone exactly what file it is, where to put it, how to add/change volume of basically every sound in the game.

Oh and Fun Fact. This file is blocked by the pure settings in CSGO.

#202 Apex Legends in Other Games

I can't wait for the Pathfinder hitbox update.

Server Tickrate needs a serious increase ASAP as well. Inconsistent hit reg and as it stands right now you can't possibly react fast enough to sound ques if your opponent already has a clear shot on you to even out a fight. Since the delay from 1 enemy shooting you and you noticing it is about 200ms assuming you both have sub 30ms ping you're very likely to have taken 60-130 damage by the time you react and start shooting (dependent on enemies Aim, Weapon and attachments), because of this you can still get times where you react and shoot someone but the server already has you as dead/knocked down and your shot does 0 damage. Another good example of this is circle strafing someone knocked down trying to block you with the knockdown shield. Ever notice how far behind the knockdown shield is from where you are? That's because on their screen they're looking directly at you but on your screen you're shooting them in the thigh/ass. You actually need to massively lead someone who's trying to thirst you with your knockdown shield in order to block the shots.

Oh and obligatory AC update please ffs.

twiikuuhttps://old.reddit.com/r/apexlegends/comments/ay5hh2/live_balance_update_live_on_all_platforms_lets/

Wingman shoots slower and is less accurate on hip fire and the headshot attachment does less damage too
Peace Keeper with bolt shoots slower
Wingman and Peace keeper drop less frequently

i reduced my crashes to barely none by limiting my FPS to 85, this update makes me crash 80% of the time during the start flight

Wingman slower firerate also means you recover more spread between shots. It's actually more effective for most players now in ADS.

Peacekeeper can still be glitched for fire rate so bolt nerf is meaningless.

Every patch I start having stability issues. After the last couple of patches I just uninstall and reinstall the game, default all the binds and video settings, and then set everything back to the way I like it. It resolves the vast majority of my crashes.
