#227 Concerns about Flares that Care in TF2 General Discussion

"How dare you accuse me of planning to do a thing I've proudly done many times in the past. I'm so hurt and offended by your lack of trust that I'm going to betray everyone who did trust me by doing the very thing I was accused of planning to do. The only reason I'm doing this is because I'm a fragile little flower and you hurt my feelings, so you see it is actually your fault"

I really hope nobody is naive enough to believe him.

#35 axiomatic returns in TF2 General Discussion

1. he seems to waste a whole lot of time spewing a bunch of nonsense ("the crosshair movement in ratio to the pyro falling movement. They seem to be almost symmetrical") which amounts to nothing more than "in this clip his crosshair follows the model closely for a few moments". The main source of these accusations seems to be his unawareness of the existence of tracking.

2. he doesn't seem to understand that after lag compensation and the demo recording process the PRECISE position of the crosshair is pretty much irrelevant. Doesn't the fact the the shot was hit prove that the crosshair was on the hitbox????

3. he makes a big point out of the fact that the crosshair tracks the bobbing demoman's head except that it doesn't and I'm almost certain that the hitboxes DO NOT bob up and down when a player walks anyway.

4. He already has povs, but he thinks that somehow stvs are more useful in his cause. Why does he have everything backwards? Maybe its so that he can find even more stupid clips where the crosshair was "behind the model RIGHT ON THE HITBOX".

5. He knows one of the ESEA admins cheats, but doesn't know that their AC team doesn't review demos. Did he mean UGC???

6. He is so stupid that not at any point does he consider that he is possibly being trolled by all the people who admitted to him that they cheat.

"Oh hi there guy who is notorious for publicly accusing people of hacking. I just dropped by to say that I cheat. Please do not tell anyone though"

7. He never cheated? If he had even the most slender thread of credibility left this last claim obliterated it, especially since in the first place his supposed credibility was based of the fact that he is himself a cheater. Half of the evidence he used originally was literally footage of him cheating. I guess he just faked that footage with his sick editing skills in order to gain the trust of all the plat hackers and infiltrate their inner circle right?

This guy is just like the burglar who sees thieves everywhere and puts 5 deadbolts on his door and bars on all his windows and with a giant helping of insane stupidity on top of it all.

EDIT: Didn't he also use the fact that the UGC admins he talked to refused to accept money from him in exchange for straight up banning Marisa as evidence of their corruption?

#44 Identity in Other Games

Some people are saying this guy is an overambitious dev, but the deceptive nature of the video makes me think this might just be a scam and that the idea is to hype up some nonexistent game and then disappear with the kickstarter funds.

The fact that the 9 minute long "gameplay video" appears to not contain a single second of gameplay, but instead is just a repeating loop of unrelated seeming tech demos while some weirdo Canadian makes vague and impossible promises is pretty suspicious to me. Its pretty clear he has absolutely nothing so far and he doesn't even seem to have a team.

The funny thing is that even if this guy was willing or able to deliver this game it still sounds terrible. It would basically be one of those Arma life mods with even more boring shit thrown in.

I'm pretty sure all of us have at one point or another dreamed of a game that was just like real life, where you could do anything. Most of us then realized how impractical/boring that would be.

Don't worry though I'm sure once this guy gets $120,000 he'll definitely make this game and totally not just pocket that money

#58 Overwatch, Overhyped? in TF2 General Discussion
LunacideIt's built off of the assets from Titan which blizzard has been working on years. This is their baby and I really doubt they'll abandon it.

The baby is already dead. Overwatch is just a rather cynical attempt by Blizzard to recycle assets from a canceled project into gameplay copy pasted from other franchises in order to recoup some of its losses.

Blizzard still has major brand recognition and they already have an established platform to promote their games (Blizzcon). So from their perspective it makes sense to throw together this game based off what is currently popular? Whatever they put out will probably will probably sell pretty well as long as its half decent. That really is what they're aiming for, something that is just good enough to make money. It seems pretty clear to me that this isn't their baby, or a project they feel passionately about (most, if not all of the developers who worked on Titan were reassigned to other projects about a year before the game was canceled). If they really cared why would they do such a rush job and why would't they spend more time on creating original gameplay design? I think the decision to make this game was a purely a business one and Blizzard(-Activision) has already shown many times that they care about business much more than they care about anything else.

Of course all this doesn't necessarily mean the game won't be good, but since Blizzard doesn't really care about making it good it probably won't be.

Personally, I didn't see anything in their little gameplay video that seemed interesting, but that is just my opinion. Maybe you guys want to play as the huntsman sniper or the guy who builds sentry guns or the other guy who builds sentry guns or the guy who turns into a wrangled sentry gun or the medic with the ez mode resurrection mechanic instead of uber (medic is boring! lets make it easier). Maybe you want to play as the guy where you can just press a button and the game will aim and shoot for you. Possibly you just want to try out the new and exciting gamemodes of "payload" and "point capture".

I guess the real reason why people are interested in this game is because they believe there will be a competitive scene supported by Blizzard and that the similarities it has with TF2 will make the transition easy (Overwatch is even 6v6 apparently) . I'm not gonna say there won't happen, but Blizzard doesn't exactly have the best track record supporting esports (ironically Valve does a much, much better job). Starcraft used to be practically a religion. Blizzard had a viable esport dumped into their laps and they ran it into the ground. They pretty much ignored Dota until they realized other companies were making big money with the concept and then proceeded to make a shitty LoL knockoff that no one gives a shit about.

I think the optimism people seem to have for this game is just a massive amount of wishful thinking and I think people are going to be pretty disappointed with this game just like they were for Brink and Super Monday Night Combat (which ironically seems similar to overwatch in some ways)

#285 meatshot 8) vol. 5 in TF2 General Discussion

I'm pretty sure "Thunberg" is actually a Swedish name anyway, but I doubt Blinky has any stereotypes about Swedes to fall back on.

With that out of the way, I'll say the idea of a new league by the players and for the players is interesting, but how many times in the past have similar plans evaporated?

Exactly how many times has the community reacted to some ESEA scandal (and there have been many of those) by demanding a new league? I can tell you it was a lot of times, but I can't tell you much of anything specific, because the memories all bleed together, because the same thing always happened. The community's collective willpower seemed to vanish completely after only a month or two every time.

Now that I've done my usual routine of cynically reminding the community of all the times they have felt similarly about ESEA and ended up doing nothing about it can you really "this time will be different"? I can tell you that "this time" will not be different if the community does the same thing it always does. We need to come up with something concrete before everyone forgets how shitty ESEA is. We also need to accept that any league we create would, at least in the short term, be inferior to ESEA in many ways. We can't try to have our cake and eat it too anymore.

#32 Quick-Fix in 6s? in TF2 General Discussion

Before: The new quickfix makes the game really interesting and exciting, it should be made the new meta and we'll savage anyone who dares to disagree.

After game 1: The new quickfix makes the game really stale and boring, it should be banned and we'll savage anyone who dares to disagree.

I don't really understand how the community's opinion can sway so easily.
