How do I stretch a 4:3 resolution over my entire monitor? Doing it through options only makes it occupy half the screen.

if I do that, it just creates black bars on the sides of the screen, unless there's something else I needed to put in settings

I totally thought you were talking about not sticking to your new year's resolutions or something...

I know this is 2 years old, but I'm trying to play 4:3 stretched 1024 x 768 in tf2 (640 x 480 in cs). Changed my desktop res to 1024 x 768 and still both games have the black bars on the side. I probably sound really stupid saying this, can anyone help?

If you have nvidia you go into the control panel while your in game and go to "adjust desktop size and position". Change your scaling to full-screen and click "override scaling modes set by games". Now save and go back to your game and it should be stretched. If you have Intel graphics its the same process but with your Intel graphics control panel.

This works for me on windows 8.1. basically for some backwards reason you don't get scaling options unless you use a 4:3 monitor res but you can just change it to 4:3, turn on scaling, go back to the native screen res and it will still enable scaling for any 4:3 game like TF2

Go here

http://puu.sh/sAKe1/1598b1acf5.png

change to 1024x768 or whatever 4:3 option the slider will give you. You'll now have a monitor res that's 4:3. Select Keep Changes if a window pops up

http://puu.sh/sAKhx/eda846de4d.png

Click the Advanced Settings and change the scaling to Scale Full Screen. Now your monitor will scale the 4:3 res so you should already see the scaling happening if you did things correctly up to this point

http://puu.sh/sAKkd/649c76ee25.png

Now close Advanced Settings and change back to your native resolution

http://puu.sh/sAKtJ/b3bfdbc77b.png

Now you can enjoy scaling in videogames. If you want to disable it again you'll have to go through the same steps (change monitor res to a 4:3 res, open advanced options, disable/enable scaling, change monitor res back to original res)

ppaleunThis is super old, but can anyone recommend a third-party stretch program? I'm using a laptop (ASUS ROG G501) and do not have options to stretch aspect-ratio in my drivers.

If you have an AMD or Nvidia, there's most likely a way to stretch your resolution. Judging by your specs, you have an nvidia gpu, just right click on the desktop, and you can find the nvidia control panel there

Actually, if you have Nvidia -m series GPU in your laptop, your drivers just don't have an option to stretch the resolution regardless of the version. I have no idea why, but even some of the very latest Nvidia mobile GPU drivers are still missing that very important feature. Since this thread was necro'd anyway, I'll post an actual solution to the problem.

- Download Hotkey Resolution Changer https://funk.eu/hrc/
- Make a hotkey to change your resolution to whatever you'll be using in game
- Set resolution from the launch options (e.g "-full -w 1024 -h 768")
- Launch the game, hit that key. Boom, it's working. If it doesn't, try setting your resolution to your actual desktop one and then change it back.

I wasted a couple of weeks looking for ways to stretch the game without having to use integated gpu, I hope it helps. I'm not sure how this program works, you don't usually even have to launch it again. It's been working for me for like 2 years (only had to redownload and use it once after some driver updates).

Is this supposed to work for your WHOLE computer? I expected it to only mess with one application (in this case stretching TF2), though once I hit my key my whole entire screen changes, not just the game alone
