Why are you still here?

After 11 years of tf2 i really want to know something. Why are we all still here? What makes this game and comp scene special to you? Ive been playing the game for about 7-8 years and been involved with comp for nearly 3 years. I know there's some people that think the game is past its prime. But for most of us here we still love this quirky game and want to keep the lans and seasons rolling. So i was thinking why do you keep playing and watching this game? Im still here because ive never found a game that feels so good to play and watch. Also the community i surround myself with is the best from keeping me up when im low or enjoying dmix's on the weekends and the fun and laughter that ensues.

Lets us know why you're still here!

I've been playing the game since last year, but I tried it out in late 2015.
To me, what keeps this game fresh is the fact that there's so much to learn and do.

Some of it is definitely habit.
The friends ive made play a big part in it aswell.
Nothing beats the feeling of playing the game. At this point theres nothing else I can do that requires me to hold as many balls in the air at the same time and the thrill of playing tf2 is something I probably wont ever find anywhere else.

just to suffer

no, I just really like the game itself cause it has its quirks, the movement mechanics and there are so many things to do in the game that isn't base stuff.

Show Content
I also put around 4000 hours in it and i can't be arsed to put the same effort to learn another game all over again like i did with tf2.

It's a fascinating question, actually considering the past 2 years have been a 'check TFTV occasionally and catch a match here and there' levels of here for me it's a super fitting thread. Why come back? There are so many experiences with other people, places and things that you could be collecting on this planet. Why??

There's nothing like it, that's why.

I've cast big LANs on site, came up from a TF2F community clan member and moved through IM (VG <3), played for the worst team in Invite (Show Me the Monet..), hopefully made a lot of people laugh with my ridiculous casting, made thousands of connections with people all across the world but there's still something left. It's like the game that keeps on giving, I've been watching recent demos/streams now and realizing things are STILL changing, it's never stale. There are so many tactics still that need to be explore and talked about. Add in the fact that there are still people out there who I've known for years but never got to chance to actually befriend and it's whipped up the perfect storm to keep at it.

Priorities still exist, life changes.. in no way can I ever put the hours into play again (no one wants to see a above average medic do dumb shit anyways) but perhaps being able to talk over some mid-fights these next few months? Going to be the absolute best season possible leading up to Episode III. How can you not be fucking hype and have it grab you with both hands and pull you in.

I swear it's impossible to get tired of watching airshots, the depth of the movement and airstrafing mechanics in this game make each one unique.

I find a strange sort of beauty in the game. That feeling is probably best conveyed by watching ikpure's frag movies.

i hardly even play anymore, mostly just mix or merc with friends once a week cause trying give it my all would prolly just make my head explode but for aslong as theres people who care enough to play well i'll continue enjoying talking and thinking about the game. All the mechanical skill aside, the teamwork aspect is always great to see when it works well for a team.

Because TF2 is just such a good game.

I'm not playing that much lately, hardly any 6s, but i'm still playing, which is what counts

dont play anymore and forums get stale at times, visiting tftv is mostly a habit since i dont even have any steam games installed;

all in all at least to me personally i definitely regret putting as much time into it in hindsight, especially knowing that i couldve cut a lot of it had i known what to do in order to become better from the get-go; still, the experiences were exciting for the most part and if not for the game i probably would be in an entirely different place now so yeah its not all grim at the end of the day;

im more than glad that more people had better time with it overall and could make more out of it than in my case, guess for every story of great passion therell be a more aloof 'yeah it was fun' type of reaction, most people just dont get to speak out on it

at the end of the day its fun to shoot people with ur rockets in the air, drop a medic, see your screen blow up with large damage numbers, etc.

but i think i would have been gone years ago if i didn't find some of the greatest friends and people i've ever met

Has been said here before but there's nothing quite like it. Obviously my friends also play a huge role and in the end of the day it's just a fun game to play, whether it's comp or even casually

Each round of TF2 you play is a unique experience within itself. The advanced movement mechanics and unobtainable skill cap grants you with this monumental desire, the desire to improve.

funny shit happens in scrims and matches all the time
all the other fps games have stupid mechanics like stuns and aim assist which is gay
tf2 has really good movement mechanics

but if i could go back in time before i downloaded this game i think i would stop myself from downloading it. i've put too much time into it when i could have done something else.

Aside from the lovely community and how fun it is in general, the speed of comp TF2 is what keeps me coming back for more.

A fight can go from 0 to 100 real quick, and rounds and games can be won and lost based on a few choice picks. It's fast paced and high stakes, which makes the skill that high level players display all the more impressive.
