yeah cause you know playing in the invite division for 3 seasons probably had little to no input, it MUST be my ability to watch tf2 streams.

svift would literally roll TCM of old with yight on charge and targe. Scouts are held to a ridiculously high standard now for even mid invite where the game is designed around the class not missing.

Tino_yightif anything hes slightly underrated
Maybe, I just see lots of people say blaze is the best roamer ever and I am not sure if thats right.

He's won every international lan he's ever participated in and has always had very impressive stats along with it.

I've had this talk with people and I think that if teams of old played teams of now, they would be so outclassed by positioning and mechanics, I think that old tf2 legends are sort of glorified, they were excellent for their time but the mechanics alone would just absolutely roll older teams imo

trippaif u actually compare players by absolute skill and not by how good they were for their time ur silly

it's hard to do simply because you can't get them in a server together.

You can't say X is better than Y because it includes things like their opponents, what team they were on, what the pressure of the match was like ect

AntimoonI feel like most of the big name players who are retired are somewhat overrated. There's a big difference between being a great player in season 6 and being a great player now, since the bar has been set much higher. Look at stuff like the classic Reptile frag vid, or Carnage's old videos, and compare that to your average open or IM player now. Things that used to be considered excellence are now considered average play.

That's not to say that the old players were bad, they certainly were great for their time, but it's kinda dumb when people say that those players would still be at the top of invite if they came back.

literally the exact opposite is true, the average skill level of this game is way lower than it was in earlier years

So winning big tournaments against many top teams from Europe and NA with consistently good stats to boot isn't enough to secure yourself as a good player

ok

vladliterally the exact opposite is true, the average skill level of this game is way lower than it was in earlier years

going to have to disagree with u on that

every player is exposed to much higher level thinking and plays now much faster than they were before
things we used to do s16 that we thought were clever/sneaky are now goto moves for every team above mid-IM
scouts regularly topdmg and its not even seen as wierd
soldiers are exponentially more adept at abusing gunboats
everybody has a much better grasp from a much earlier point in their comp tf2 life about how heals work and how to abuse them

just because all the big names we looked upto in invite arent there anymore doesnt mean everybody is much worse, it just means the people there now got there by replicating the shit past generations used to beat everybody

holy fuck are you that dumb or is this satire?

calling someone overrated as an invite player is not even a direct insult. not only that, but tagg isn't going to see this post, because he made his own choice to separate from this community (for good reason. nobody should feel alienated from a group they've been a part of for ten years).

Not only that, but he is objectively overrated. He wasn't that strong of a roamer in invite. on bp and HRG they were all just strong enough that they could hold with him dead, so they just sent him in to die over and over and over again. His popularity gave people the idea that he was better than he actually was, especially when you compare him to blaze or seagull.

Based on what? I hear that claim made all the time, that tf2 players are worse than they used to be, but I never see any evidence to back that up. Your average 6's player nowadays has way more experience than your average 6's player from 5 years ago, and has more opportunity to gain experience through services like pugchamp and faceit.

If you think that players like oPlaiD or Relic would be able to hang in invite nowadays, you're either delusional or intentionally lying to yourself.

AntimoonIf you think that players like oPlaiD or Relic would be able to hang in invite nowadays, you're either delusional or intentionally lying to yourself

yeah some of the old invite players from like Season 7 etc will straight up admit that they ARE shit, and WERE shit at the time. i remember cbear being one who mentioned it on stream
