From what I understand, it seems like the TF2 players are legit, but each team has like 4 hackers who have to do challenges or something which will give the players in TF2 buffs or bonuses for completing the hacks?? I have no idea man, this is convoluted AF lol.

semi-random people playing tf2 with stock sourcemod fun commands plugin. they earn "points" for whatever they are doing and they can purchase sm_slap, sm_blind and other commands applied to the other team.

shits dope af. I wish the TF2 community paid more attention to it because it's pretty neat they've chosen TF2 and it could be a real fun cross-over.

oooh he just called ninjafish a pro, who's that?

looks to be a hackathon/hacking contest (not developing actual cheats) with a tf2 game to help score/attract viewers or something. pretty cool

I assume by "damn near a pro" I assume he means a pretty good pubber and better than any of the other players.

So it's a pretty interesting event but only if you are interested in the hacking side of it. It's a shame they haven't figured out a way to show it off in the stream however.

yeah it would be nice to be able to see the actual IRL stuff going on rather than a stock heavy shooting the floor @ 10 FPS

This is honestly quite cool, although it's hard to depict what actually happens in the CTF side
The hacking part is commonly referred to as CTF, multiple teams are faced with up to real-world hacking challenges; all of them consisting of finding a secret string (sequence of characters). Challenges like steganography (finding hidden information inside a picture, a video, a sound file), decrypting without any other information (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kryptos), exploiting common flaws in system configuration, in tools, in programs and in website development.
IIRC one scene in the last season of Mr Robot depicts this kind of tournament

(I'd make sure your browser/OS is not Spectre-vulnerable before visiting these)

apparently they've also got lock picking challenges under the "physical" category.
