Dvorak is a really beautiful piece and therefore really enjoyable to play, but Shostakovitch is probably the most fun I've had performing and playing.

If you want to make the listener be amazed, play Shostakovitch.

If you want the listener to fall in love with the beauty of the piece choose Dvorak

imo Barber's Cello Concerto isn't really on par with the other two.concertos.

Will you be performing the piece with an orchestra?

Hate to be that guy, but if you need help deciding which of these is "the better sounding song" I find it hard to believe that you have the experience to play either of these pieces (dvorak in particular, one of the most difficult in the whole repertoire).

I've always been partial to Shostakovitch for all my music needs - but I like a more down tempo version than how yoyo ma plays it there because it allows for more sweeping stuff later :D

Just a personal preference, but if it's specifically a concerto you need, I think you should go with the Dvorak concerto in B minor.

I should also recommend the Arcanum soundtrack, one of the neatest game OSTs, meant for string quartet, but the sheet music is also available for free online and there are plenty of students who play them:

https://youtu.be/ZDS7HZkeqZg or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rtf1fmWRhM8 for example. The fellow who wrote the music for this game now teaches Music at Berkley IIRC lol.

A long time in this case means presumably the rest of your life or at least some 10 years assuming hours of daily work. And then you have to pick another 100 to learn first on the way there.
