Despite how I use to play TF2 for hours at a time, I have incredible difficulty playing scrims/matches that tend to go for a long while. For example, if I were playing competitive for over two hours, I will eventually have an extremely hard time trying to stay focused on playing the game. My mind has a much easier time wandering off and it makes my play extremely inconsistent. I am looking for any tips that can help me keep my focus on the game for much longer periods of time.

During weekdays I generally only play tf2 when I need to (scrims and matches). I find that this helps me put all my energy and focus into competitive games. It also feels like I am more eager to play tf2 after I've had a busy day or if I am doing something other than sitting at my computer before I have to play. I'd personally recommend not playing much before scrims or matches besides warming up. Hopefully the jungle inferno update can boost your overall interest for the game.

I used to always play pugs and mge until I had scrims or a match but I would be very tilted or burnt out by that time. Now I just play whenever I feel like it then I mge for 30 mins before a scrim/match and I find I'm more consistent and focused.

^^^this.

Consider taking a break for a day or two as well, it doesn't seem like much but it can do a world of good. I've burned out in this way quite hard with IRL soccer and just having a few days off was absolutely the best thing I could do to restore my focus and passion.

Staying focused unless I'm extremely and obsessively interested in something has always been an issue for me. The easiest ways I've found to help deal with this is either to do some short meditation before matches (If you've never meditated before it may take a while to learn how to make it work for you) and also having some sort of sound whether it's a specific song that's a bit repetitive or just simple ticking like a clock, going on while you're playing to remind you to stay focused. For the latter it's better if you find 1 sound you like and only listen to when you're playing and want to be focused, so that way the association with hearing it and understanding what you should be doing is much more automatic.

I know that for you it's most likely an issue with your drive to play opposed to a general struggle with focusing, and I know these aren't perfect solutions but they help make it possible for me to play with some sort of competency. Anybody else with any other real advice would also be appreciated, because this is still a major issue for me and is probably the biggest thing holding me back from getting better at this game and achieving other goals I have in real life.

tbh honestly I think you should take games a little less seriously. Any competitive enviroment can get pretty stressful. When I said games it can mean literally anything even non related to videogames (like sports). If you think that after 2 hours of gaming you start to burn out then just schedule for how long you will play a game and then just play any different game or find other activities that you may like (EXCEPT ANIME!!!)

I say sometimes lightening up on yourself (I know you're in invite and you can't really do that) can help. I also say finding other things to do that aren't on a PC help a LOT. Drawing for long hours helps me regain focus on anything, so maybe you can find that thing that works for you! Also remember breaks can be hella good (again, i know you can't easily take a break with your schedule). Hope that helped a little :)

Cover the outer edges of your monitors with little tips.

"You got this!"
"Stay focused :)"
"Don't drop rando :D"
"Remember that we will all die one day"

etc.

Dyl4NI used to always play pugs and mge until I had scrims or a match but I would be very tilted or burnt out by that time. Now I just play whenever I feel like it then I mge for 30 mins before a scrim/match and I find I'm more consistent and focused.

Man you live the life.

I get home from work knackered, go straight into the scrim server, fuck around on soldier on a very different sensitivity and then switch to scout as the scrim is starting.

That and the work coffee shakes, make being in the zone pretty tricky

Idk if my piece of mind will help you but, I've had huge burnout in the mid season of s25 and kept playing the game anyway which was a awful idea. I kept trying to push myself and it made me more mad playing the game instead of just taking it easy and only playing when I need too like campy. I mainly just pug now from time to team instead of pugging for 3hrs then into scrims and matches and it was way too much tf2. So I'm hoping relinking with some old pals from a few years back will hopefully re-spark my interest for esea. Everyone needs a break at one point unless it's ur actual job. Idk if this is any use but I've been enjoying tf2 SO much more now not playing it 6 hrs a day.

UnnoTedIf you listen to music while playing, there is a tip from the cofounder of Paypal, Max Levchin: Fast (130bpm or faster) trance or techno, purely instrumental, or sung in a language the listener does not understand. Keeps the listener fully awake, and even somewhat tense, and therefore more alert, but does not distract by engaging language-processing brain areas.

You've just revealed the secret of every weeaboo scout main.

The council will not be happy about this.

liasIf you are not having fun wasting your time on a video game then stop wtfsendif you dont like the game dont play it

I still thoroughly enjoy playing TF2 despite how I sometimes act.

I appreciate all the advice given to me in this thread. I think with a new mindset I can find more consistency in my play.
