how do you guys study?
give usual location
usual time of day
method, ie: textbook, class notes, internet, study buddy/group, etc
any other things/tips

I get distracted easily when I study and I can never get myself to study enough, I get bored easily and I stop studying after a little bit. I want to find a good way to study that works for me and am willing to try anything. This is specifically for studying math and if you guys use the internet to study math please link what websites you use. I want to be able to study effectively and consistently, help!

usual location: CS lounge
usual time of day: all day
method: group w/ someone smart
any other things/tips: just fucking power through it dude

(assuming uni/college) If the math department has a lounge (where people actually go), you will almost certainly find someone studying math there or more likely someone who already took the course (it's good to regularly hang out in these types of places in part for this reason). Potentially even the people that mark the assignments and/or tests anyway. You can also organize with some friends from your math class to go to some lounge and study there (it's also good to be friends with the type of people that study hard even when they know most of the material). Group studying can keep you, and them, motivated. And for math in particular, if the textbook / notes / lecture material doesn't make 100% sense to someone, others can help and explain it in another way / give examples that make it make sense.

The lounge again is good for solo study (because you'll likely be able to ask help), but the library is also a good option (because it's likely the most quiet spot to study). Home can be alright as long as you go somewhere you don't usually play games or anything. Whether you should use the textbook, online examples, or video resources would depend entirely on the course material and the quality of each. In any case you should be trying examples and sample problems. The key to either online or video is to keep focused--going on tftv or reddit or wherever will completely kill all your momentum.

For online / video, the majority of undergrad material can be found with a quick google search. While it won't go over very complicated questions, khan academy is my go-to material review and refreshing. The textbooks and previous assignments will usually be the best for practice questions as long as your professor is consistent, even if they don't always do the best job of actually teaching it.

Going to the library will help you not get distracted. If you find that you can't study for long without getting distracted/bored, then break your study up into smaller blocks of time with little breaks in between, e.g study for 20 mins then take a break for 5 mins then repeat.

Also I use https://www.symbolab.com/ for my maths study to check answers. It's a really good site that for most problems can show the steps of finding the solution.

Basically just go someplace where you know it's quiet (uni library is the place for me). If I'm studying for an exam, I will first read my notes, then I would read the textbook sections, then do problems until I'm confident. It's a simple routine that is super effective because if I can understand the theory behind the method then the rest is algebra. Also chegg is your best friend in uni.

if you find yourself getting distracted then my advice to you would be to either study in the early hours of the morning, like 4-5am for a good 1-2 hours, or just in a different place that you dont associate with any of the things that distract you, both of these have helped me for years

study groups are great for bouncing ideas off of people but awful for actual productivity imo, you dont tend to get much down on paper

everyone ive ever known thats done exceptionally well in maths specifically basically shut themselves off to the world and grinded through as many questions/papers as they possibly could. you dont need the internet to do maths, just a textbook for guidance and whatever questions you're doing

I don't think this is necessarily the case. Depending on the people you can do literally nothing productive, or you can motivate eachother to be productive hours past when you'd normally stop. The trick isn't to group up with your close friends or even necessarily the smartest people you know, but with the people who are going to study nonstop. You still write tons of stuff out on paper, but you also get the chance to either explain things (and explaining something is a great way to know it through-and-through) or get it explained to you (so you can get your questions answered immediately, instead of looking around a book for info that may not even make complete sense to you).

I've gotten 95-100% on midterms I thought I was going to fail solely because of solid 10+ hour group study sessions, while smarter people than me actually did fail because they couldn't bring themselves to study on their own for more than an hour or so.

I study alone and in a place where i cant get distracted. If its maths i solve problems until i either feel confident or get stuck in which case i ask someone smarter for help or look it up online. If its a subject where u have a lot of theory i read all of my notes and textbook and then i highly suggest getting a friend or someone to ask u questions about the curriculum u've been studying. If u dont have anyone to question u try doing it by yourself, like ask urself a question about what uve been studying and try to explain it the best u can (as if ure explaining it to someone).
Also i know its easier said than done but try and study regularly, helps a ton.
Hope any of this helped!

slader's good for finding answers to first year textbooks. Make sure to rid yourself of distractions like turn off your phone/laptop. Everything else will fall into place

the biggest thing u gotta remember is a good nights sleep is much more important than extra studying

Now its at my desk at home or my desk at work... In school:

When: Whenever there was available downtime - preferably NOT at night until the night before something really big. Because i had way cooler stuff to do.
I had this big L shaped desk that I eventually smashed and burnt when I graduated because I hated it - but that was where I would study, sometimes also I would study outside, or in the computer lab, or the steps of the library.

Typically what I would do is make a sheet, or several sheets in necessary, and would write down by hand, all of the crap I needed to know for a given examination - so that would be equations, factoids, important words or numbers etc.

Then I would stare at that sheet and recite it aloud for 2-3 hours. Then I was typically done.

kitchen table
3 PM - 6 PM
methods: notes, internet
stop distracting yourself, if you feel like listening to music then do it but dont force yourself to if you dont, study methods dont really matter. just dont do flash cards for math, they are a waste of time imo. all i do is flip my notebook to a new page and write down every equation/important piece of information/etc i can remember, then flip through my notes to get the rest. and dont forget to take notes on what the teacher is saying during lessons because you might miss some important stuff. dont always resort to google if you think youre stuck, spend time thinking about what youre learning conceptually and you will understand it a lot better than if you just memorized formulas and copied down answers. get good at algebra and everything else becomes really easy. do extra homework problems too

For exams I gave my phone to my parents and uninstalled my psu and told my parents to hide it, made it pretty easy to lie down in my room and start studying instead of procrastinating.

rid yourself of all distractions and think about how fucked you would be if you stopped studying or didnt at all. there are many studying methods but some don't work for everyone. Depending on the course, I like to make a Quizlet/Practice Test for myself and keep taking it until I get consistent hundreds

rewrite your own notes and make them as clear as possible as if you were explaning to your classmates so that ensures that you fully understand all the concepts.
then since its math just use khanacademy if you're stuck then practice some of the hardest questions that are in your textbook.

Somewhere quiet w/o distraction. A coffee shop is not good because it's probably really noisy. I usually like libraries the best. I usually study in the afternoon, and rarely at night. I recommend you turn off your phone completely till you're done studying. If you have a test coming up on like differential equations or something, and you can't stop yourself from watching youtube or log on on to teamfortress.tv , I would recommend you also check out the "strict workflow" chrome extension. Ik it's kinda stupid, but it works.

I have no problems with the distraction, It's easy to me to be focused for a long time. However, I can't stand when I get the assignments to write a review or an essay and cover some ultimately boring topic. That's just wasting the time. In those cases, I try to find essay online and switch to another more practically important tasks

hello I'm attention deficit - I always found the only way for me to study successfully was to exam myself with past papers, so I'd go online and ask my teachers, I'd split my papers up and test myself in intervals before my exams

then between you can write yourself a small guide on how well you did in different parts, so for instance if you were really weak in circuits in physics or something then you refresh that and do some practice questions and that's like 3 hours in total, but it's also key improvement, which is A. gonna improve ur exam mark a lot and B. is mega time efficient which is premium as fuck if you're an add child like me

I've known a lot of people do a hell of a lot more studying than I did and end up doing way worse because they actually spent all their time talking to their mates or just being on facebook or something

e- fuck I replied seriously to bot bumped thread -___-

i did essentially the same as marxist. at the end of the semester i would take my binder of notes and go through the whole thing, copying the important notes to new sheets. i would then go through the new notes slowly, memorizing each one as i go (starting back from the start of the sheet when i memorize a new note, to make sure i still have everything memorized), so eventually by the time i get to the last one i can recite them all pretty easily just by looking at the first word. working about 4ish hours per day since that was just my personal pace, it usually took a couple days of work making the new sheets and a couple days memorizing them.

i HIGHLY recommend taking breaks when you feel you need them. DO NOT sit there reading notes if you aren't absorbing anything, it is worse than taking a break. just play some vidya for an hour then go back to them with a clear mind. i did virtually no other studying (practice problems, textbook reading, office hours) and this method got me through a chemistry program at u toronto with a high 3 gpa.

In the event that you consider somewhat consistently you'll be persistently checking on things in your brain. This encourages you comprehend things. It likewise encourages you evade the worry of a minute ago packing. Online Science tutors

Right off the bat in the year a hour or two a night may be sufficient to remain in control. Later in the year you may need to contemplate all the more every day. Online Science tutors

In case you're thinking that its elusive time to ponder, cut back on a few (yet not all!) of your different exercises. Organizing study may mean investing less energy on the web, or it may mean curtailing shifts at work, or giving end of the week sport a miss for some time.Online Science tutors
