this sucks so much, my heart goes out to everyone effected by this tragedy.

there are tons of injured people so if you'd like to help the victims you can donate to help the victims here: https://www.gofundme.com/dr2ks2-las-vegas-victims-fund

if you're native to LA/Nevada you can go help the victims by donating blood as well, heres an image of addresses for blood donation in the LA/Nevada area:

http://media.thisisinsider.com/images/59d24a182ff63064008b489c-480-287.jpg

even if you're not native to LA/Nevada i'm pretty sure you can donate blood locally also

there are also more gofundmes if you want to donate to those as well

More deaths than the '96 Port Arthur shooting in AUS.
I'll be vehement if congress doesn't attempt to make some changes to carrying laws, this isn't right

My aunt and cousin were a block away from this... They're a little shaken, but fine otherwise.

let's not start with this stupid gun control argument guys, it takes away from the people who are negatively effected by this horrible tragedy.

actually focus on helping the people effected rather than argue about this shit.

http://heavy.com/news/2017/10/route-91-victims-las-vegas-shooting-victim-photo-name-mandalay-bay-full-list/

We've become somewhat desensitized to mass shootings just because it sadly just happens far too much. Following events like these, you always seem to find the statement "hits too close to home". For me it wasn't a matter of hitting too close to home, it was home.

This was the first time where an event like this had a "real" impact on my life and the hours following while more information was coming out were tense. I'm incredibly fortunate in that everyone in my immediate family is safe, including my two parents who were working on the strip at the time. I just hope that I don't have to find out that a friend was a victim of this horrendous event in the coming days.

All of this shit is so sad man

no its time to ban automatic rifles from being purchased by the general public, its time to beef up your countries mental health services etc. there are many things that can be done that will likely cut down on the number and severity of mass shootings in your country without "the dems taking away all our guns" or breaking your "2nd amendment right"

edit: ok i guess its 2nd amendment

if you're in your 20's you've seen the headline "deadliest mass shooting in modern US history" three different times. Virginia tech, Orlando. and now Vegas.

Just a reminder that it is very difficult to obtain an automatic weapon, and the weapon used by the shooter was a semi-automatic rifle modified to be shot automatically. Just want to put that out there.

yeah I'm sure making new laws will stop bad things from happening, this nutcase who meticulousy planned and prepared to murder as many people as he possibly could would have been stopped if ordinary americans gave up their right to keep and bear arms, the government loves me!!
by the way how is that secession vote in catalonia going?

I've seen in several different places he most likely used a technique called bump firing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bump_fire

There are so many guns in the US and the gun culture is so ingrained into the US it is pretty much literally impossible to take away guns. In 2009 there were about 310 million registered guns in the US. That was 8 years ago and doesn't include illegal guns. It doesn't matter if making guns illegal is the right thing to do it's feasibly not possible. Likewise with the US changing from imperial to metric, it's logistically impossible to do at this point

Also it's the second amendment right to bear arms not the first fyi

I can concur it is fairly difficult to obtain an automatic weapon it's both extremely time consuming and very expensive. If one has the skills necessary to fabricate one illegally - the required equipment and skills aren't exactly cheap either, but they say the guy had recently won a lot of money gambling, so maybe that's part of it?

I still don't get why anybody would do such a thing though.

I've seen a lot being written about societal problems and mental healthcare inadequacies, but if anything - we have far better mental healthcare facilities than we did in say, the 20's when a huge portion of the male population had military training and plenty of reasons to be mentally unstable, not to mention non-existent mental healthcare. Why didn't it happen more then? For most of the 20th century there were handfuls of mass shootings (of the spree variety) every decade to be fair, but around ~1980 there was a sharp increase that has sustained itself throughout.
