RGL.gg - Season 2 - $4,000 Prizepool Prolander

We are back with Season 2! The money has been paid out from last season and we're ready to start up our next chapter.

For people who are not familiar with our format. RGL.gg plays Pick/Ban Prolander exclusively. It's a format of 7v7 but you can only play one of each class. Meaning you'll see a majority of the classes seeing play at any given time, but you're also not stuck on any class with two of them always being available to swap to. Meaning you have to constantly think about your class selection and if you need to mix it up to counter the enemy team.

If you want to see what this fast pace, dynamic game mode looks like in action. You can watch through our VOD's from the first season.

Changes this season

We've change the structure of the recreational league. Now you pay a flat fee of just $5 to create a team and it's free for anyone to join your roster once you create your team. Your team will also be given a server to play on for your matches.

We still have the solo queue league, where you signup by yourself or party with a couple friends. You will automatically be placed on to a team. This has been incredibly popular (about half our league last season was solo queue) and is a great way to get into format, starting at only $2. We also added a competitive version of the solo queue for players of a bit higher skill level who want to compete in our prize pool division. Last season two of our solo queue teams won money in the comp low division!

Finally for Comp Low/High we now have pre-paid teams. Know you want to create a team, but don't have the roster figured out? No worries, you can prepay for a full team now (lock in the early bird prices) and add people to the roster as you find them.

The first week of matches will start on Thursday Oct 12th for Rec/Comp Low. Matches default date will be at 9:30 eastern.

We want to keep the league seasons short, so it's an easier commitment to get into. This season we're running a 5 week season + playoffs.

We're running an early bird sale for the first week of registration, up to 40% off normal registration!

Register now @ RGL.gg

If you want to try our Prolander we also host PUGs @ RGL.gg/PUGs.

Looking for a team? Post in our subreddit.

Thank you, and thank you to everyone who helped make Season 1 so amazing!

not that im a supporter of RGL, but i will say it seems better than HL. why do people see the need to run a full time spy or an engi on offense.

The whole point of having paid sign ups is to defray the amount of money you have to personally spend, so while all $2,000 of the first season's prize pool was his money he is using the sign-ups from the first season to off-set the amount put in this season, whose sign-ups will further off-set the amount invested in Season 3, etc. Eventually (if it is successful enough) he shouldn't have to spend much to do a season.

See also: ESEA, who lose money on this game but keep hosting seasons of it anyways.

e: Okay well I haven't done the math since ESEA dropped LAN to be fair, but like basically every season since Season 5 when they implemented LAN until at least when they dropped LAN was operated at a loss because LPKane liked TF2.

e2: Nah I did the math on the past season between sign-ups + prize pool givings and ESEA still lose a couple hundred dollars on it give or take just from that.

He can't be pulling in more than $100 and money doesn't work that way lol

Yes ESEA the organization that used your computer to mine bitcoins keeps hosting tf2 at a loss because they are such altruists

Honestly, I'm curious about prolander as a format, and since RGL is the only league doing this right now, I figured I'd give it a try myself.
Was gonna do a thing with Faint but they dropped support, so now I'm bringing Envision Crew over.

My main issue so far in being a team leader for RGL, is finding players that actually want to play in this league. No offence intended to Sigafoo of course, but RGL is currently a bit of a joke as far as the sixes community is concerned. I don't know why Sigafoo is marketing this towards the sixes community, when the sixes folk don't really like highlander. So why would they be expected to like a format that's basically just highlander minus two classes? Even if it is arguably better than the original format it's set out to replace, it's still a format that nobody in the sixes community wants.

I mean, good on him for trying. Sigafoo clearly believes that prolander is the future of TF2. A belief I (and many others) don't share, but good on him for putting his money where his mouth is. I hope it works out, but I'm not holding my breath at all.

Tackling the first part of this is difficult since RGL has no prior division history right now but

Yes ESEA the organization that used your computer to mine bitcoins keeps hosting tf2 at a loss because they are such altruists

Yeah ESEA has done dumb stuff but it's been talked about how they operate at a slight loss in TF2 before.

That doesn't negate the point that LPKane likes TF2, don't forget that 2 years ago they were going to remove TF2 entirely but the communities plea for support & trip to Valve & on-coming matchmaking system convinced them otherwise.

I still don't get why sigafoo thinks 7v7 will suddenly take off as the meta comp format or something

Most of us pretty much agree that 7v7 just isn't necessary, and even if sigafoo is only doing this to stay relevant or even to boost his own ego or something, he could just as easily do that by creating a pretty sick 6s tournament

Engineers are rarely played in 6's. That probably has something to do with it

unfortunately unless hes generating some additional revenue besides signups its still a pretty significant hit on his part. while i cant seem to find numbers anymore, just from his comments about paid players and what i could see from the rosters, it looked like maybe $2.3-2.5k in from team and player fees; despite a 4k payout. no clue what he may be making or losing on any other part of this though. even if he sees decent growth id imagine take a few seasons before this stops being a major loss.

6s exists for people who care about improving and playing against the best competition

HL is for playing with your retard friend who likes to play engineer for some reason .

You can't have pyro and engie mains in 7s which is really the only advantage it has over HL so it won't pull teams/ players from there. and it's worse than 6s in every way for competition so thats irrelevant.
