That's really cool, could you do that with the benchmark demo? Should give you a very good comparison of the 2 configs. My suspicion is yours well have a lot less variance while mine will have a higher average.

Sure, but it will take me some time to get it out though since I now use a Nvidia card and only AMD cards have this feature on Linux. I'm building a new PC (with Vega) in around December since this i7 870 is falling off now.

Using anything other than -1 is not recommended (unless you're using 0 to force best quality), because if you try to use r_lod to force a lower LOD, you might not be using the ideal LOD (performance-wise) for that distance.

What are your launch options? Do you have any modifications installed?

My Launch Options:

-full -w 1920 -h 1080 -console -freq 144 -novid -nojoy -noff -nohltv

I have some custom particles, a killsound, and a hud. If I open up a menu while playing I can see the game though.

Well if a model has a lower LOD level than 2, it won't ever be used. r_rootlod sets the highest LOD level that can be used, so while r_lod 2 will always use LOD level 2, r_rootlod 2 will start at LOD level 2, and fade to even lower LODs if needed.

There are a few config options that the comments suggest setting based on if you have a weak GPU and weak CPU. Try setting those. Also, I haven't investigated a lot of the visual settings that will boost FPS on these potato computers.

Even with that, I feel like FPS only gives part of the story. What about load times, stuttering, etc?

In addition to adding more options to make the graphics less taxing on weak computers, I'm also planning on revamping the comments. Right now, the purpose of comments aren't very well defined, so I wanted to have each comment both explain the CVar, as well as why I chose a certain value for that CVar to be the default for the config. However, I'm not entirely sure how to organize the text for that. So, anyone have ideas on what they would prefer for comment formatting?

So I just installed this config and there's a few issues I've encountered so far.

Whenever I join my own local server, I just get stuck in respawn, cannot move and can't shoot, the fire sound just laps and no projectiles or scatters come out.

Also another thing I've noticed is that whenever I try and change my settings or even change a crosshair while in a casual game, when I press ok it disconnects me out of the game? Very strange

Also what is the reasoning on having mat_trilinear 0

host_thread_mode 0 breaks local servers but apparently helps when you're online. You can just make a toggle-bind for it.
