tsarMarxistI started my kiddo at 4 - I set him up on a 24/7 goldrush server, spawned him in as heavy. The gates opened, and he got random kritz and mowed down 3 people before being headshot, and he just sat there trembling with elation and has been hooked ever since.

I did modify his game to not show chat and no voice comms either from or to him. He also discovered MGE about 4 years ago. Now that he's older, he plays TF2 less, but he still plays prolly 2-3 times a week. He also went through a mario kart balloon-race phase. There are so many different ways to play tf2 and enjoy it it's not a bad game to get into honestly.
Is his alias Leninist?

He's in Indiana so it's actually Maoist

This is my son and MGE story that I love most.

One day I walk past him, notice him playing Badlands mid MGE. I ask "how is it going" because his face is beat red and he's SUPER mad. He says "Dad, this guy JUST HIDES BEHIND THE BOXES until I shoot all my bombs, and then he comes out and kills me! STUPID!" and then he logged off lol. I replied simply "welcome to MGE son"

Regarding all of the console commands and settings everyone's suggested, I reckon it'd be a pain in the ass to have to change all of those settings back whenever you wanted to play. If you were going to use settings like -sillygibs and turning chat off, put that in your autoexec so your son never even knows something's missing when he launches TF2. That way you can have your own separate .cfg that you execute every time you want to play so you can read chat and everything.

He had to line up his Toys again. They fell over whilst watching him.

this or you could just have a separate custom folder
when i used to do production for tftv I made a batch script to swap a dynamic link between two custom folders so that my personal config would be entirely separate from the camera stuff (if you care to, it's also possible to make separate shortcuts with specific launch options to avoid typing -dxlevel or -windowed -noborder or whatever every time you launch the game with different settings)
if you're really motivated you could even go as far as disabling the various console commands by doing stuff like this so it can't be changed once it's set off (without relaunching the game or execcing another config)
