Should I cap my fps? Will there be any benefits?

I've been getting a lag spike every couple of minutes. Could FPS capping get rid of that?

you can experience input lag if you are constantly hitting the max fps

driftayou can experience input lag if you are constantly hitting the max fps

That's not how it works.
You always have input lag.
Constant fps just keep it constant. Otherwise it'll be randomly spiking and dropping, which will fuck your aim up.

I was using a nicer config for a while, fps were good but I noticed input lag after few hours of playing then I switched back to Comanglia's config and I still feel input lag, reinstalled game but it did not help, any solution please? I hit 200-300 fps

Do you get a lag spike, a freeze or an fps drop?

cl_showfps 2 will show you min/max fps.

this is only true (and only technically) if your computer can easily bypass whatever your fps_max is. the reason for that is frames that your monitor can't draw actually still exist, and input lag is tied into framerate.

to give an easy example, let's say you cap at 60 (for whatever reason, on good settings this is bad because having fps below your cmdrate is bad for hitreg) but could be running at 120 FPS all the time.

60 FPS is 16.7ms of input lag, 120 FPS is 8.3ms, so if you can run 120 FPS cap with no problems then by just running at 60 FPS you are essentially adding a perceptible 8.4ms of input lag that doesn't actually have to be there.

you basically shouldn't uncap in this game though because likewise, having a variable fps means variable input latency and if you play MGE/local servers on a great computer then you will go over 900+ FPS and the timescaling of the game breaks horribly at that point.

I dont think i get any lag spikes, freeze or fps drops. Basically when I start tf2 and join tr_arena_rc2 and after few minutes playing soldier I feel it again and my fps are consistent between 230-300 (fps_max 300)
EDIT: could my mousepad cause it as well?

otherwise no

quick question that i think may be related to laptop overheating.

every three hours of gaming (ish), my fps tanks for about 15 seconds. from 150 to about 10. it's like moving in molasses. this is not limited to tf2.

afterward everything is fine. i have observed this pattern long enough to be pretty sure it isn't going away. has anyone experienced that or have a clue where i should start troubleshooting?
