May be wrong in that, but we know nothing about any other Rewind LAN soon, so it's not really like the teams could start planning now for it. If you can prepare for a LAN you don't even know its gonna happen like Rewind LAN, you could've also prepared for i61.

Also i think at this point is important to well-treat i61 LANs as THE event of the year for TF2, simply for getting the maximum hype and awareness in the community for the event itself. If Rewind LAN was confirmed for being something annual we could be talking about something now, but iirc that's not the case and i think we should be sticking to i61 as the major event of the year and show that we're united enough to show all the top-competition from everywhere in the world at the tournament.

That's just my opinion however.

Both LANs are gonna be fat, not going to either of them would be a mistake

also lmao fundraising "as many" NA teams to go to an NA lan

Traxgarte. If you can prepare for a LAN you don't even know its gonna happen like Rewind LAN, you could've also prepared for i61.

Preparing to go to an EU lan involves $1200 plain tickets, passports, pc rentals, general "forfeign country" trouble

Preparing for an NA lan is a $400 plane ticket and a hotel room.

would be sad to see froyo not attend i61, but they have to do what they have to do to be sure they can attend esa rewind lan with as little financial support from the community as possible so that money can go to other teams that may need help getting to lan

I mean a LAN based in Europe is going to have more European teams than a LAN based in North America

or did the world map change on me whilst I wasn't looking?

by volume alone sure, but when you consider which "na teams" are going as a top player, you're talking about notable teams that might actually take a few rounds off of you rather than open-level teams

rewind will always have more lower-level na teams than i61, whether "all" the top na teams make their way there in addition to i61 is a toss-up

I guess it's mostly unofficial talk but Weedmaps were extremely happy sponsoring the first event and would do it again for next year.

Would be cool to see both EVL and FROYO at i61 but the situation seems dire so send at least froyo there, we don't need to send all 6 NA invite teams to LAN. 1 would be enough, 2 is already a dream.

i61 is a bigger and more prestigious event overall, the festival atmosphere is really awesome imo and honestly many folks have already committed to travel there just to watch. We'll see you there or we won't. If getting IM move-up teams to LA is more important than having iSeries be the top EU vs. the top NA like it has been since 2012, then do it up.

i61's dates have been set in stone for a long time. If ESA wants another successful Rewind event, they have the luxury of being able to schedule it several months after iSeries so that folks can have a chance to save/earn/fundraise money and go. Many folks did both last time, and I'm sure if it matters to folks, they can do it again.

If no NA teams come to this year's lan its gonna be really lame for the iseries lan as this season has been one of the most interesting ones of prem ever and there's quite a few teams that could improve a lot between now and lan.

Also it's odd to expect EU teams to come to rewind but not have NA teams come to iseries when NA's league has a prizepool they can put towards their travel costs (and b4nny is making much more from this game than anyone else). It's a shame that the lan was announced late but I can still find flights for under $1000.

The real issue is the fact that there is little incentive to go when even first place prize pot won't be enough to recoup half the investment loss. It costs about 2700$ for each player in NA to even go, witch is about 16000$ total. That's allot of money to field a team for a LAN with no sponsorship in just 79 days. That's not even including hotels, food, and cab fair/+exchange rates and increased taxes on all these things; witch I estimate at a bare minimum of 500$ and that's assuming some very charitable souls step up.

Bottom line is that it is both logistically and financially impossible for us to send a team to i61... unless we start selling our organs?

There will probably be fundraisers like every year, no need to sell organs.

I'm not suggesting that any teams below the top 2 from NA should go if they don't have a high chance of winning. It's pretty understandable (just as I wouldn't expect most of the prem teams to come to rewind lan). I just think it would absolutely suck if 0 North American teams came to i61.

I think 2 intercontinental lans a year with 1 in each region where we can expect at least the top team from the other region to attend is definitely feasible.

I suppose we were lucky flying to LA in January for £350 as a round trip.
Hotel was ok for price as well iirc

Problem is flying to the UK in the peak of UK school summer holidays and over a bank holiday weekend.
