I can only get 60hz connecting my laptop to my Acer 120hz monitor through HDMI.

Is there anything I can do or am I doomed to play on 60hz?

I used to have a laptop and wanted to see if I could use it with a 120hz monitor and get 120hz. This was the most useful reply I got: http://www.teamfortress.tv/36444/laptop-to-external-display-is-120hz-possible#2

Display adapter properties doesn't do anything because my integrated graphics card is an Intel HD, but my laptop also has a GeForce GT 730 graphics card, so I'm not sure if that helps or not.

SetsulDid it work?

no :(

I found out that my monitor does not support displayport, the only way to get 120hz on it is to use the double link dvi.

So unless anyone knows of a different method it seems the only solution I have is something like this: https://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815158262&ignorebbr=1

it was worth the try but it seems for now I am a 1024 x 768 @ 75hz gamer

SetsulOnly if you have a MiniDP.

I guess I should have also mentioned it only works if the monitor does have DP.

Active adapters add latency so half the reason to get a 120 Hz monitor is gone.

Hooking up a 120 Hz monitor to a laptop is kind of pointless in the first place though.

why do u say this? i use a laptop + 144hz monitor and with an external mouse and keyboard its literally no different than playing on my desktop +144hz...

It is not.
Outputs on laptops are generally routed either through the iGPU or through a switch.
Then there's all the other usual laptop shenanigans.

update for anyone who cares

using this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201738939861?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I can get up to 110hz, which works perfectly fine at 1920x1080. If I try to use 120hz I get stuttering at any resolution. When I use 100hz or higher my monitor makes a barely audible hum, so I'm guessing this adapter is not safe to use and might end up breaking something if I keep using it. But it's so convenient... There is no input lag.

DecapotatoThere is no input lag.

Unless that thing can reverse time there is.
That doesn't mean you can tell. It's always hilarious when people claim they can feel the difference between a monitor with 1ms input lag and 2ms input lag. The whole chain from mouse/keyboard to the monitor takes >30ms.

If it's a good adapter it shouldn't be worse than 60Hz and it looks smoother than 60Hz.

ive played on a PC with 120hz before, this adapter seems to be doing its job. Although I think youre being pedantic ill be more clear, if theres an increase in input lag from what i was previously using, i havent noticed it and it doesnt seem to affect my gameplay.

more on point since tf2 is the only game i play you have to understand its not worth it for me to spend money on a PC when i get 200 fps on my laptop and i can get 110hz with a $20 adapter.
