Adjustments made to global whitelist

September 8, 2016

Following the controversy over certain items being allowed in the recently-announced global whitelist, league admins have decided to adjust the whitelist and ban a couple of the most-discussed weapons.

In this adjusted whitelist, the Atomizer and B.A.S.E. Jumper have been newly banned. This brings the list of banned items to the following:

  • Soda Popper
  • Bonk! Atomic Punch
  • Flying Guillotine
  • Crit-a-Cola
  • Mad Milk
  • Atomizer
  • Sandman
  • Disciplinary Action
  • Buffalo Steak Sandvich
  • Dalokohs Bar
  • Fists of Steel
  • Gloves of Running Urgently
  • Pomson 6000
  • Short Circuit
  • Wrangler
  • Quick-Fix
  • Solemn Vow
  • Vita-Saw
  • Sydney Sleeper
  • Darwin's Danger Shield
  • B.A.S.E. Jumper
  • Reserve Shooter
  • Pyrovision-enabling items
  • noisemakers
  • noisemaking cosmetics
  • explosion-on-death cosmetics
  • indefinite-duration taunts

ETF2L posted the following statement with regards to the changes:

We will be banning Atomizer and B.A.S.E. Jumper in line with ESEA and ozfortress. The new whitelist link will be whitelist.tf/competitive_6v6, which should be updated soon. The rest of the whitelist will remain the same. Thank you for your dedication and vocal response, and we hope to get more feedback from you as we go along with this inter-league cooperation.

ozfortress league director obla also posted an update with regards to the Australian league:

Yeah confirming that ozfortress will follow the amendment of Atomizer + B.A.S.E Jumper ban. Will be made official after confirmations with other leagues (which is happening as we speak).

The cooperation of leagues is what we're aiming for here, and apologies for the mistakes (and hence changes) as the processed was slightly rushed due to the ESEA deadline.

The current whitelist with the two changes will most likely be the one used in OZF S17 but I cannot guarantee that no more changes will be made.

We get a backlash like this every time something is unbanned which has happened a lot in ETF2L over the last few years. And then a week later everyone realises it's not that bad when you actually play with it rather than get pissed on the forum, I honestly think that this is the right direction and hopefully the weapons will eventually be good enough for no whitelist
Remember when EU TF2 died because we couldn't use Open Plugin? Me neither. There just seems to be a lot more drama and hype than is really needed

This could've been avoided IF YOU ACTUALLY ASKED THE PLAYERS THAT PLAY YOUR LEAGUES IF THIS WAS THE BEST DIRECTION FIRST.

From what I understand AsiaFortress will be making a decision soon after some internal talks.

agreed, during scrims last night I was able to successfully fend off several uber pushes on Gully last by simply RRing my sentry from spawn doors. This would be even more effective on maps like Process and Sunshine where the gun actually covers the entire point and you can still heal it from spawn.

The Cowmangler novelty wore off pretty quickly, though we did manage to get some fully charge picks while stalemating on Gully choke. But both of my soldiers are Original users and didnt like the Cowmangler as much, but stock RL users may find it more useful

I still feel like rescue ranger has the potential for some really gay shit with sentries on maps with huge lasts, but we'll have to wait and see

rescue ranger and gunslinger should still be banned, they're way stronger than half the weapons in the blacklist

whitelist will probably need to be adjusted in the future and as long as the leagues are willing to respond to feedback from the players quickly this should be a fine starting point

honestly i'd like to see the solemn vow allowed, i don't think it would break the game and it would give medics a greater calling role, not to mention it would be interesting seeing medic able to know the other med's exact % at the risk of having to peek him which in most cases would be risky, to me the weapon seems fine but maybe i'm missing something

I really hope they end up banning the cow mangler because the right click is just obnoxious through choke points and removing ammo management from the game seems like a really bad move.

Plus it sounds and looks retarded

shorasGunslinger is barely useful against 2 Soldiers and a Demo.

I have to disagree to a point. Sure a soldier/demo can destroy the gun easily but you are also wasting ammo on a structure that can be rebuilt very quickly. That alone makes the gunslinger effective in some situations.

On maps with large mids, like Process and Sunshine, it can be even more effective as a counter to scouts who like to rush demo's and medics or for any agressive scouts that like to make room for their teams.

And it provides just enough knockback to make a soldier lose his momentum with jumping. It's essentially like a low resource area denier for scouts and jumping soldiers.

Tbh I think the gunslinger would be interesting to see since it's not particularly powerful but it's also not just insanely useless

the strat is you can push over and over and over cause the team can't push out because they have a heavy and vaccinator

Plus playing gunslinger engineer is incredibly fun. At least for me I enjoy DMing around my mini very much

Gunslinger is still an annoying weapon but it's not OP or anything and it doesn't super slow down the game. Running engi outside of last, even if they're using Gunslinger, is still worse than having a second scout 90% of the time

I still hate the Natascha's very existence and the Rescue Ranger is still pretty dumb but this is a step in the right direction
