So... what did this update actually fix?

Obviously matchmaking is great, and the quickplay is pretty cool when you're able to connect to a server. My issue is that none of the balances seem to be anything we asked for. Where are the DDS/razorback changes? Reserve shooter? They basically only addressed the cozy camper and the CaC. Nobody asked for a buffed quickiebomb launcher. No one asked for a bison nerf. It just seems like the changes are mostly irrelevant and in some cases make the game worse. I'm asking for perspective from better players since I'm just awful. Does this update make sense to anyone?

Nope. The thing that makes the least sense is the med/scout buff. Just why.

I wouldn't say it's moaning. Creating legitimate feedback, especially about things that went wrong in the update is an important thing.

Last thing scout needed was an air blast. It is good for mvm though... if anyone plays that still.

Its been barely 12 hours, I dont think people have played enough of the update to produce legitimate feedback.

I mean just reading through the changes you can tell Valve didn't really pay attention to real balancing. I'm especially confused because b4nny was supposed to be working closely with Valve. Did he forget to tell them what we needed?

I think some of the changes just on concept alone are not well balanced, like the scout buff or the crit-a-cola nerf that didn't fix the issues with it.

It it is true, a lot of the changes that people hoped for have not been delivered.

However I feel that the changes that have been made are for the better; engi is less tedious, medic is more fun and valve are taking steps to create a better pyro.

Be happy that the game is still receiving large updates after 9 years.

In regards to b4nny, I'm not too sure on what his suggestions were. Does he have a video on his channel or something ???

trippayeah the only changes that i don't like are the quickiebomb buff and medic change other than that they're cool

That's the thing though. The changes are cool, but they don't address any previous concerns. I'm not saying they're bad, I'm just wondering where the real, necessary balancing is.

plz lets not turn into reddit when pyro was nerfed

the fact that dds wasn't nerfed makes me think they're balancing for mm/low-level shit (since sniper isn't as big of an issue there). which is exactly how you dont balance a competitive game

valve has balanced around pub play for the last 9 years, why is this surprising

I personally really like the med changes... It makes playing medic far less stressful.

I wouldn't mind it if the speed bonus wasn't as intense (or as fucking buggy holy shit) but I think in general it's a good change. Sue me, but it kind of reminds me of Overwatch - Mercy's wings make playing her feel so much better than playing Medic in TF2. That same concept doesn't work well for TF2, but the general idea of being more agile and able to keep up with heal targets is a good idea.

Basically it allows the medic to put his survivability in his own hands. Especially in lower level comp play, you're only going to survive when your team is keeping you alive by defending you and playing with you - the second they stop focusing on you you're food for the enemy roamer. This change means that I'm not as stressed constantly by teammates that might not be looking out for me anymore. At a higher level of play, it's going to mean that medics can be more aggressive in general, which I also don't think is a bad thing. Medic mains at a high level now have a higher skill ceiling. Who's complaining about that?

I think b4nny summed up the quickiebomb changes pretty well, basically saying "this would make a lot more sense if they removed its ability to destroy stickies".

Also this update objectively fixed framerates by reducing the amount of unholy stuttering that TF2 has had over all these years, which got worse and worse with every update. Especially when its main competition is a very well-optimized game like Overwatch, this is pretty damn important.

Just un nerf stickies and scout wont be so op anymore, having the way demo was originally kept scout in place. Now with this medic buff i feel its an indirect buff to scout cause now the med can run with scouts and the same speed. Honestly this is probably the only BIG problem i had with the update.

I was very disappointed with the balance changes. I was hoping that an update that was heralded as "we might never have to use whitelists again!!1!" would deliver more important changes. A quick comparison of ETF2L's S24 bans on whitelist.tf against the patch notes shows very little of substance was altered. If they wanted a starting point they couldn't have asked for a more obvious one.

It does give me hope that we'll see further iterations in the future though. This patch on its own is underwhelming but if it's part of a trend of balance updates every so often then I'm more than happy.

yttriumI personally really like the med changes... It makes playing medic far less stressful.

medic is SUPPOSED to be stressful, it's not a fragging class. The whole point is to track things and use movement and good positioning to stay alive. Skilled medics got a buff with the crossbow.
Scouts don't need to be pocketted mindlessly either, they should be aware of their positioning relative to their medic, not just run be able to run around and have the medic follow, makes the class even more OP

alright i'll say what i like

I think the major changes to spy and engineer are REALLY cool and well thought out. both changes make the classes BETTER at their niche without generalizing them, which I think is really good balance

spy always had a problem with being ineffective until he got behind lines, as you cant really do much on the front line (unless you're acooma). with the speed boost spy can get behind faster and have a more immediate impact on the game, but it doesn't change the fact that if you're caught out you're still toast, and most of the disguises in the game don't get the speed boost so unless you're disguising as scout, medic, or spy, all it does is let you get behind faster which is cool

engineer on offense always had the problem of being really good but taking too long to set up teleporters, dispensers, and a sentry (if you're not using minis). oftentimes by the time you got fully set up your team would have already pushed or won the round. with the change to make teles cheaper you can now set up way quicker, allowing engie to have an impact more often without actually buffing any of his buildings

I didn't say it removed all the stressful elements from playing medic. I just meant it's going to stop me from having anxiety attacks all the time.

I don't think scouts are going to be pocketed. Medics will probably just hang on to them to get to where they're trying to go more quickly. Of course, we'll have to see how it plays out, maybe my first impressions of the change are completely wrong. I haven't yet had the chance to even play with the change so I'll defer judgement.

trippawith the speed boost spy can get behind faster and have a more immediate impact on the game

just a quick little note, the speed boost is only going to help if you're undisguised or disguised as medic, scout, or spy (or just cloaked) since otherwise you're still going to get slowed down to a normal speed.
