Sorry for the necropost, but I think this is pretty relevant.
Former player HoppinAround/CJC got picked up by FaZe today, which I think is pretty neat.

Jerax with liquid just won the second significant dota tournament in a row. Definitely the most successful ex-tf2 player in any esport.

If you check the OP you'll see he played in div6. I don't know if he played any further or not, though.

It's probably not cool to post about myself. But I stopped playing and quit my day job to chase a dream. It's a seasonal business, so I only make money in April, May, June & half of July. I just ran this report to make this post:

wrua finnish player DraQu is a speedrunner and Reflex player, although I know that for a long time I remember about him now because at the moment he holds the world record for Devil Daggers with 500+ seconds so that's quite an accomplishment I suppose

updated to a better record, ty cryma

he currently has the WR for doom'16 any%

http://www.speedrun.com/run/jy96pvey

it also looks like he's getting another one for legendary any% right now: https://www.twitch.tv/draqu_

IMO Shitty game for comp, but I want to see it do really well just because of all the TF2 people that are at the top level.

It's not that shit of a game, just anything but what FPS QUAKE-TIER GODMODE YEAH #ESPORTS game it was advertised as. The one thing I like about TF2 is the plays on flanks and occasional 1v1 situations. There's just none of that in competitive OW, since it's all about team pushing behind a shield and what not.

That aside, it's a decent stream game and seagull is definitely entertaining. Haven't had a non-cs shooter worth watching in the top 10 in ages.

On-topic: I never understood how people just completely ditch Steam. It's even an app at this point. How can you spend money, time and more than 300 nights in a game and then just entirely abandon it, never going back just once a year?

As much as some people wouldn't really like OW to be successful I'm glad Seagull got picked up by Luminosity and is pulling 20k viewers. The dude deserves recognition for how talented he is at practically and game he picks up.

It's all situational to the individual, a lot of people switch over to overwatch but still use steam as their friend hub despite not playing other steamgames much, what you're referring to sounds like people who downright stop frequenting steam all together in which case their friends probably have contact a different way (mumble/discord etc) so they don't need to visit steam unless it's someone out of their inner circle needs to contact them which at that point is low priority

As for abandoning a game they've put mountains of time into, it's easy to get sucked into something else. When you get jaded on the same game after so long there's not much to go back to once you're out of competitive tf2. Major updates are scarce and pubs are arguably stale after a while of playing them, it's just logical to enjoy treating a new game as your main hobby if you enjoy it more

No one has mentioned it yet but It's one of the most impressive so far. At least in terms of prizepool.

kustom3 (or k3) the medic for the old Punchline team (the all star french prem team) has qualified with Torpedo Gaming for the Paladins $100K Founders Tournament at Dreamhack summer. As the first seed nonetheless and his team appears to have a 92% winning rate so far in the weekly tournaments from what I've read.

I played a couple of games with him and his would be team very early into the beta last year, and it was noticeable he was very keen on it, glad it worked out. Guess I should have put some time on it as well ;__;

Yeah k3 is pretty guaranteed a huge chunk of that if his team doesn't throw, the playerbase is obviously tiny tbh in Paladins but that man went HARD immediately and deserves it. Pity the game looks dead long-term though.
