Textbook example of how the new European Right does things: Insist on everything being decided by popular vote, then muddle the campaign with racism, appeals to emotion, and outright lies, paint yourself as the oppressed group and get the votes of everyone you've successfully confused.

Let's hope the Brits come to their senses soon (and let's hope Germany takes this as a lesson to not fall for the same garbage, as we are wont to do).

barcaphilipSo with this we can make the simple conclusion that this will rock the poor countries like Italy Greece and spain hard. And many more. UK was one of the biggest economies apart from Germany.

why would it, UK paid ~ 5b eur annually, while e.g. Germany 15b, France 7b. Even Netherlands have same amount of UK. I don't think it matters that much.

I can't really say it's just the european right, this is literally the only reason trump's a major candidate; he's a complete bullshitter that even the most basic of momentary glances would show a million flaws, but he's gotten so many people to believe that any form of objective media is out to get him that he's still wildly succeeding

2016 is the year of everyone simultaneously figuring out an unchecked democracy's one major flaw

Likely a temporary negative spike.

The real gain or pain (wahey) is yet to be seen.

Yeah being in the European Union is just so great that Switzerland and Iceland have withdrawn their applications.

Trading with countries does not require political union and the surrendering of powers to an organisation which actively tries to subvert democracy and the will of the people.

Not everyone is a racist just because they dislike the EU. A lot of people disliked the idea that laws could be made in the UK by European politicians who are in no way accountable to UK citizens; it's not like you can vote out a German MEP if you don't like the laws they are forcing upon you. We also pay in membership fees double what we get back in grants.

As for trade, we will be fine. France and Germany etc aren't going to spite their own industries just to punish the UK for holding a democratic referendum. What kind of message would that send, the EU will try to bankrupt you if the citizens of your country decide they don't want to be a part of it any more. Who would want to be a part of that club?

They also need us to buy their products, it'll hurt their own economies to impose restrictive tariffs.

2.63million cars sold in the UK last year, over 80% of them from EU companies. Good luck to Merkel telling VW they can't trade with the UK any more.

#44 Have fun accepting EU legislation and paying into the EU budget without any way to influence policy-making. Negotiating trade agreements without the weight of the EU behind you should also be enjoyable. Lol at "an organisation which actively tries to subvert democracy and the will of the people" also.

It's astounding how people can seriously be anti-globalization in the 21st century. It's like being anti-weather, it's not going away if you close your eyes and pretend you're not getting wet.

Ever heard of "European Parliament"? Who do you think votes those parliamentaries? Why the hell do you think Europe has had this period of 70 years long of peace? (in the previous 70 years 3 big wars were fought) Do you thing that "yeah. Another war? No way. We're better then our ancestors pfff"? Do you really think that dividing in smaller and smaller countries will help us? How do you think you can talk and couterpose your opinions with countries with like 10x or plus of your population in the international scenario? (apart from USA: Brazil, China, India,.. these countries won't stay on the back sit FOR EVER).
That's ok let's close in ourselves. Let's think that we'll be greater if we're smaller and if we think only about our garden .Let's think that we're better then anything else. Let's think "before US, then YOU all".
Then just don't try to find the guilt outside, because the fault it's all yours.

I like how you're saying this after the country had already lost literally a thousand times over what it was touting as saving--and keep in mind, this decision isn't 100% final just yet, so should it go through parliament expect another spike

Well that was always going to happen initially after the referendum, nobody knows for sure what kind of trade deal we will get with the EU so investors will be cautious. That doesn't mean we won't get a favourable deal in the end.
You can't put a price on democracy anyway. Self-determination is more important than a potential extra 1% growth each year imo.

i am certain that EU countries will keep on trading with the UK but will the UK be willing/be able to pay the price
Also keep in mind that most of the UK'S biggest export partners are also in the EU and the stuff you export can also be bought from other countries

They're going to make an example of the UK to try to discourage similar things happening in other member states. I doubt attracting new members is much on their minds right now, survival of the bloc is.

this should not be the major argument you have in favor of so utterly tanking the core economics of your own country--especially when you splitting off essentially dropped all of your bartering ability that the EU had, and moreso when it's so easy to argue that the only reason the vote won was thanks to a heaping spoonful of misinformation

yeah sure england will survive on its own despite being in a downwards spiral towards total toxicity and aids since the end of the industrialisation. like the thing about states that have elected not to join the eu is they have independent thriving economies (like banks and shit in switzerland and oil and shit in norway). your banks are shit and you have fuck all oil. you're like the next greece. can't wait for the eu to save ur asses in 5 yrs

Not at the expense of their own industries they aren't. Also what kind of message would it send, the only reason to stay in the EU is we will punish you if you dare to leave? It proves the leave campaigns point about the EU being an anti-democratic bully.

What, the idea of democracy and the right to self-determination is not worth a potential few % of growth? I guess Brits just value their freedom more than Canadians.
