I don't think you'll need 16GB RAM, but it's well within budget so why not. 500GB SSD is an obvious upgrade, so if you think you'll need more than 250GB for OS + programs definitely go for it.

The BenQ XL2411Z is definitely good, it's got the BenQ Motion Blur Reduction Utility (basically lightboost with a bit more options) but it doesn't support FreeSync.
The AOC G2460PF and Nixeus NX-VUE24A (the NX is a bit better) do support FreeSync, but don't support Lightboost.

Unless you're going to buy two monitors you have to choose.
Well there is one option, the BenQ XL2730Z does support both, though not at the same time, but it's far more expensive and it's a 27" 1440p monitor, whereas you were looking for a 24" 1080p monitor.

Thoughts on this build? I don't know too much about parts but a friend said this would be a good choice. The computer I currently have is dying and i'm saving up for this one.
Would it be good to play games other than TF2 with? (Overwatch, DOOM, CS, etc)

You don't need an aftermarket CPU cooler if you're using a locked (non-overclockable) CPU. You could also go for a cheaper motherboard and better-value GPU, like an R9 390, or go for the new Polaris/Pascal lines (not sure how much they'll cost though).

I'd probably have to test this to know, but which is better; lightboost or freesync? I'll only be getting one monitor, and it'll be a choice of the 24 inch ones (no point in getting the 27" if it can only do 1 at a time). People say lightboost is better if you have a stable framerate, but freesync is good with AMD cards?

How is your current pc dying? Some parts might be salvagable, or it might even be fixable. You can still get a new one anyway, but if it's a cheap fix you should do it so you can sell it.

When are you going to buy the parts? New GPUs will be released in the next two weeks.
What's your budget?

Other than that some adjustments:
Swapped the CPU for the highest clocked version just because it's within budget.
You don't need an aftermarket cooler (see #1264).
Cheaper mobo.
8GB RAM should be enough. Should the need arise you can just add more. If you want to go with 16GB from the start there's cheaper than what you picked (e.g. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-memory-cmk16gx4m2a2400c16 atm).
Faster SSD, again because it's within budget.
GPU is mostly a placeholder since you should wait for the new ones which should be even cheaper. However if you're not waiting the Fury is faster and cheaper than the 980.
I'm not exactly sure what wanted for the case (window? sound dampening?). Aesthetics are always difficult so I'll deal with that later or you just pick a case on your own.
Swapped the PSU for a fully modular one. Both are built by Seasonic on a similar platform and the same price, so that's pretty much the only difference.

Yeah you should definitely test it.

Some explanations though: G-Sync and FreeSync do the same. FreeSync is in theory free, Intel will support it in the future but for now it's just AMD. G-Sync costs you about 100$ more which is the reasons why nVidia does not support it in the public drivers (although the could and did in some notebook drivers), since they're still making money with that.
->FreeSync only works with AMD cards atm

But what do G-Sync and FreeSync do? Well usually when your fps drop below your refresh rate you'd either get horrible stuttering or VSync would hack your framerate in half to keep the fps in sync with the refreshes. -Sync just adjust the refresh rate downwards. Only getting 143fps? 143Hz it is. Nasty drop to 97fps? No problem, let's just use 97Hz while it lasts.
So it's really nice when you can't get as many or more fps than your refresh rate, but does absolutely nothing if you do.

Lightboost is the opposite. It's basically strobing, you can read up on how it works, but that's not important. What it does is it prevents you from seeing the frame change. Monitors spend quite a bit of time changing from one frame to the next, so most of the time there's actually two partial frames on the monitor. They blend into each other, which we percieve as motion blur. Lightboost blocks that out so you only see one frame at a time -> basically no motion blur (think CRT). Now that's great for fast paced games (fps etc.) but it obviously won't really help in RTS or Minesweeper. There's also one downside: If you can't get stable fps at a multiple of your refresh rate (1 is fine, but basically you want to cap at the highest you can keep stable, that's usually either 144 or 288fps, assuming 144Hz) you'll see all the nastiness that the blur would usually mask a bit. You get to experience how truly awful screen tearing and stuttering really are. It wil make your eyes bleed.

tl;dr
FreeSync:
-only works with AMD cards, later Intel (G-Sync for nVidia, but more expensive)
-helps if your fps drop below your refresh rate

Lightboost:
-helps in fast paced games (less motion blur)
-truly awful if your fps drop below your refresh rate.

Can you help me put something together with a 1080 and 144hz screen in mind? Budget ~3k

Any games (going somewhat overkill because meh), streaming.

  1. Yeah I'll most definitely be overclocking. Probably something like a 25% increase in clock speed for the CPU (or something like that). Haven't explored OC'ing my GPU before so I will see if you think it's worth pursuing.
  2. I'm not sure about res tbh. I'd like to make sure I'm CONSISTENT 144+fps, so I assume 1920x1080 is the way to go? If you think the beast can handle anything like csgo/overwatch/other multiplayer games. In terms of G/Freesync - I'm not too sure about this. If you recommend and think it's worth getting I'm down to pound.
  3. Storage capacity is a w/e - the more the better. Right now I have about 8TB or so - will probably stick with my old HDD's and just buy new SSD(s).

Decent size case would be good - but not a tank :D.

Also have an AX750 PSU to salvage from old PC.

And, do not forget I am actually not from Poland :P please keep Australian prices in mind :D

thank you!

1. It probably won't be 25% on the 6700K since it's already at 4.0/4.2 GHz and >5.0/5.25GHz don't seem likely. 4.8GHz should be doable though.

2. You can always use lower res upscaled on a high res monitor if you're not getting enough fps. The question is do you even want 1440p or higher? 1080p is usually good enough and cheaper.
Since you want consistent fps ABOVE your refresh rate G-Sync/FreeSync won't do a thing. There is in theory the BenQ XL2730Z (27", 1440p) which could do both G-Sync and Lightboost, but it's 750$. It doesn't seem worth it to sacrifice Lightboost for G-Sync if you're not going to use it either.
I could ask now if you even want Lightboost, but the cheapest 144Hz monitor is a FreeSync monitor (utterly useless with a 1080, thanks nVidia) and the next cheapest for 25$ more is the XL2411Z, my default Lightboost recommendation.
The only way it would make sense to get a different monitor would be if you are absolutely sure you don't want Lightboost and are willing to drop 80$ on G-Sync for the odd 1% where you'd need it.

3. Ok, I just put in one SSD and no HDDs.

No ODD and only a 256GB SSD (a damn fast one though), otherwise it's pretty much maxed out.

You are a sexy beast.

Can you tell me situations where G sync would be worth it? I don't really understand how it works, sorry >_< If it's p much as you say 1% of situations I'd probably use it then I guess I won't bother.

EDIT2: preorders not looking to start up for the 1080 for the next 1-2 weeks apparently. Demand too high here and not enough supply FeelsBadMan. Will it be too expensive for me to order internationally? I can wait a few weeks but it is mildly annoying - especially in case the preorders pop up and I miss them by a few minutes

Hey can someone create me a build around $700-850 CAN,thanks.

*dont need to include moniter

edit - I want it for games and such, just something that can run well. (witcher, gta, tf2 at 1080p) medium settings are fine, just want to get the best I can for my price range.

Should state your aims with this build - will make it easier for people to help you e.g. play game x y z, etc.

Have you ever seen what getting lower fps than the refresh rate looks like? G-Sync drops the refresh rate in those case so everything is still in sync and you don't get eye cancer.
Now since you want more fps than your refresh rate in TF2 it can't do anything. I guess you'll be playing TF2 most of the time so it already doesn't seem worth it. But even in other games you should be able to get >144fps on 1080p with a GTX 1080 (maybe drop down one or the other setting from maxed out if you don't).
Short version:
-Weak GPU, demanding games -> G-Sync helps a lot.
.Strong GPU, low GPU load game -> G-Sync doesn't help at all (TF2)
-Strong GPU, demanding games -> G-Sync might help, but you could just drop the settings instead which is cheaper (your situation for everything except TF2)

Speaking of the 1080 I really wouldn't preorder or order at all right now. Prices are still incredibly inflated and the Founder's Edition is really just an overpriced reference card. Thanks to the "Australia tax" the 100 USD premium translates to 200 AUSD, so I definitely just wait for AIB designed cards.

AMD is dicking around a bit. Lisa Su lost control and Raja Koduri is trying to kill AMD for some sweet Intel money.
They did announce the RX 480 though.
Nothing is confirmed about the performance yet. 36 CUs have been confirmed which should mean 2304 Shaders. A leaked slide mentions 5.5TFLops so that would put it at ~1200MHz. The 150W TDP seems unexpectedly high for such a "low" number of Shaders and clockrate. This might not be the full chip, but instead be a lower clocked salvage chip, with a full chip and possibly another 36 CU chip both at higher clockrates appearing later.
We don't know exactly what the performance will be like but it should be around a 980 / 390X, worst case a bit lower, but still noticeably better than the 970 / 390.

Here's the kicker though: Delaying the launch until after Computex makes sense so they don't have Bristol Ridge and GPUs launching at the same time. But it would leave a lot of the market to nVidia if the full Polaris 10 chip was supposed to launch at 350$ and compete with the GTX 1070. Now what if they've given up on that because they've moved Vega to October?

Sure, it's a bit dissapointing that nVidia won't have competition in the 300$+ segment until October, but that's not actually a bad thing. Because even if the RX 480 is the biggest Polaris chip we'll see it's still the best GPU we've seen in years.
Why?
Because it's 200$.
200$ for performance better than two of the best price/performance GPUs (970 / 390) we've seen in a while, which were 300$+. 1/3 less for better performance. 200$ for performance that you would've payed 500$ (980 / 390X) a few months ago. Better than 970 / 390 performance at the price of the already ridiculously good price/performance 380.

Yeah, I can see that selling.

They're also advertising that two RX 480s will beat the snot of a 1080 in Crossfire at 2/3 the price, but that's a different story.

#1281
See #1282.
If you don't tell me what you're trying to do I'll just recommend a Raspberry Pi and 700$ of thermal paste.

#1283
Clockrate is king for TF2. Also Skylake isn't any more expensive than Haswell nowadays and the higher DDR4 speeds help a bit as well.
The V300 is the SSD anti-christ. Do not buy it.
For the love of god, wait until Polaris launches. They've already announced a card at 200$ which is looking to be the best thing since sliced bread and I'm pretty sure we'll see something great at 100 and 150$ as well.
30$ max for a CX PSU. Corsair CX x50 and EVGA x00B are entry level PSUs. If you can't find them <=30$ they're not worth it (unless there's nothing else available, then maybe 35$). Get whichever is cheaper (in this case 500B at 30$).

I thought it was a troll, but then I checked your profile.

The headset, the case, the fans, the 32GB RAM at the lowest possible speed.
I died a little inside.
The only thing this could get any worse is if your profile is actually right and it's an i7-6700 non-K. Judging by the lack of a cooler it probably is.
So much money down the drain.

I don't really play TF2 anymore - pmuch exclusively Overwatch with some SP games here and there.

If you suggest waiting til reference cards, about how long is that?

Also another build q for you (sorry to bother) - friend whats an Overwatch PC. If he can stream, or at least record video somewhat that'd be pretty good. Budget about 1k AUD

PC only no screen/peripherals/install (I think) required.
