How many hundred bucks?
OC'd G3258 is pretty cheap and decent. i3-4170/i3-6100 are 117$ and should get you >90% of the performance of any i5 (not oc'd) as long as you're not streaming.

For TF2 you could get away with integrated graphics, the 6100 actually comes with an iGPU ~50% faster than the 9800 GTX.

Thanks, but I just can't resist:

I would be overjoyed if I could get a constant 120fps for under $300. I'm fine with overclocking if it is recommended but for simplicity's sake I would prefer not to.

The i3-6100 should be widely available soon. 8GB DDR4 is already <50$, mobos <80$, so once it's available (NCIX 170$ doesn't count) you can get everything you need for >>120fps for <250$.
The iGPU is an upgrade over the 9800 GTX so I don't see the need for a discrete GPU. Anything below 100$ (except for some 80$ deals on the 260X) isn't worth it anyway, e.g. 250 is barely faster than the HD 530 -> horrible price to performance ratio. Just get a GPU later if the need arises.

Here is what I've put together. I would love to wait for the i3 6100 but as I mentioned my current PC is totally dead, so this is more urgent. Does this all look ok?

Yes, the HD 530 can't hold a candle to the 260X, but it is enough for TF2 and allows you to get a far better GPU later (e.g. 285 for 150$).

Hi guys.

Planning on building a PC in around a month and a half. So I've been thinking about what the build should be. after about 6 months of planning and thinking I've come up with this one:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QJKHTW

Mainly, I've been wanting to get a custom PC in order to play games at a stable 120 FPS, because my current laptop I've had for 5 years is being a piece of shit. So I was wondering, is this build sufficient to play TF2, CSGO and Dota 2 at low settings while maintaining 120 FPS? I'm open to changing the build according to you guy's suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Budget?
Cooler and Z series chipset are a waste of money with a locked CPU.
There's new CPUs by now, this is what happens when you plan too far in advance.

There's two downfraggers now. 90% sure it's an alt. Do I have to make an alt now too? Oh wait, I won't participate in this kindergarten bullshit.
If you think I've said something wrong, say so. Otherwise stop wasting your time.

Why does he want to upgrade? Upgrading for the sake of upgrading is a waste of money. Find out in which games he wants how much of an improvement in fps and what exact card he's got now. Then recommend a GPU accordingly.

You didn't actually ask a question, I just assumed you tried to. But if you just wanted to tell a nice story ...

Yo setsul, wanna hook your boy up with a build recommendation? ~$800 budget (can go 1k if needed or if the difference will be that substantial). Case/750w psu already acquired.

Which case, µATX or full ATX?
Which PSU? Just to make sure it's not diablotek.

Just the budget isn't enough, I need to know what you're going to use it for. TF2 obviously, but what about other games? Streaming yes or no?

Not really PC building related but I would like to know what's the best upgrade I can do on my rig for roughly about 130 USD. This is my current rig :

CPU:i5-4460
GPU:Inno3D GTX960 4GBs(I know it's bad)
RAM: 8GBs
Motherboard:B85M-Gamer

I mainly play TF2 and CSGO, thanks.

cougar solution 2, atm very old ATX will prob need new, thermaltake 80+ bronze

fps games like h1z1, dayz, fallout4 when it's out, etc. i'd like to be able to stream.

TF2 and CS:GO would basically only benefit from a CPU upgrade and you can't get a better CPU than the one you currently got for 130 USD.
If you're getting enough fps there's no need to upgrade.

#704
Overclocking yes or no?
Which Thermaltake exactly, just curious.

I probably won't get around to doing the build until Monday though.

960 4GB is a massive waste of money.
It would fit, but still be a massive waste of money.
Also any GPU you buy before knowing how much power you actually need for the settings/resolution you want is potentially a massive waste of money.
Buying a GPU that's more powerful than what you need it is a waste of money.
Buying a GPU that's less powerful than what you need it is a waste of money.
Buying a GPU earlier than you need it it is a waste of money, since prices only go down.
Buyingy a GPU right before a GPU that's still within your budget, but faster (380X) is released, is a waste of money.
There is no way to win no matter what you buy right now.

tl;dr
Not this GPU and not now. Unless you are desperate to get rid of your money.

I don't see the point of a new build with that card, it's a massive bottleneck.
Like I said, waste of money.

#709
Oh difficult decisions incoming.
Mind if I just add you? This will take a while.
The PSU is ancient and probably won't support C6/7, at least it doesn't officially.
With no overclocking the Xeon E3-1230 v5 would've been the obvious choice, but so far it doesn't seem to be working on consumer mainboards. With efficiency out of the window the E3-1231 v3 would probably be the best option again.
How soon do you want to build it?

#710
see #711 and #712, 850 Evo.

#712
You're not overclocking so B150 should be enough.
You should have a look at EVGA, GS is Seasonic, G2 is Super Flower and imho Super Flower Leadex Gold > Seasonic G.
Wait for the 380X if you can.

Hi everyone, I have a really noobish question... so here goes,
I was wonder if anyone (probably Setsul lol) could help with making a decision on whether or not I should utilize my free upgrade to Windows 10.

I'm currently running:
Windows 7 64-Bit
i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40 GHz
8.0 GB of RAM"
AMD Radeon 7870
I'm just wondering if upgrading to the newer windows will make any difference (increase or decrease) in FPS. I doubt it will but I don't know so hence the question. I play FPS Games, Mobas and Open World/Free Roam games like GTA Online and Shadow of Mordor (which for some reason runs on Ultra with my card quite nicely).
If I need to supply more info let me know.

P.S. In the coming of months I plan on getting a new GPU (if the newer games I plan on getting have shitty FPS with my card, for example SWBF3 and Blops 3 which I had somewhat okay FPS in, so long as I scaled down the screen res which I'm fine with. That, and they are betas so max optimization isn't really a sure thing for a beta). I have around $300-ish AUD to spend on getting a new card and from what I've seen, the 380X would be a good pick up. Is this true/can you provide other cards I should look out for?

Thanks in advance, Neo :)

Yes, wait for the 380X. When you actually buy a GPU in a few months I'll know the actual price in AUS and will be able to tell you if it's worth it.

Noise, heat/power consumption, price a concern?
How reliable? URE rate? Rated read/writes per year? Warranty?
Also which shop(s) (or price comparision site), you might not be able to get some of the HDDs I'd otherwise recommend, especially Toshiba and Hitachi availability and prices are weird.

What is the cheapest possible build I can do that will be able to run and stream TF2 and CSGO (mainly TF2 though) with 120+ frames without too much fluctuation? Don't have any old parts that I can recycle and reuse. I would like to have an SSD, but it is not necessary (I really just want to use one, haha). Reason being is because my current laptop is on its deathbed, so I would like to build a computer as soon as I can.

Thanks in advance!

Settings? Especially the stream makes quite a difference. 320*240 at 15fps runs on a toaster, 1920*1080 at 60fps means i7/Xeon minimum.
Also if you're going for minimum there will be fluctuation.

go for it, and idk sometime reasonably soon. obviously if waiting a month or 2 months would be incredibly beneficial to me i'm fine with making do with my toaster for a while longer.
