To Quote a bible:

IGLAbsoluteHello all.

Just bumping this thread as we've now launched our TF2 9vs9 Highlander ladder!

www.playigl.com

You will need 9 on your team for you can reg. on the ladder.

This could be an interesting way to do highlander, instead of getting shit on by high-whatever-div teams, you can play laddered matches.

TWL had a highlander ladder back in the day. It wasn't very active. V2.0 signed up, challenged the top team, we won, and then we sat at the top waiting for the odd challenge here and there. Ladder's are weird unless there's a lot of teams. I welcome more leagues with TF2 though.

Holy shit I just remembered Truk made a video of one of our very few matches back in the day:

I just wish IGL had a user-friendly interface that made finding a team somewhat plausible.

Also their forums are a total mess

Our forums are v1 - they need to be skinned, and the ranking algorithm needs some tweaks. We've based them off reddit / hackernews.

Our tiered ladders will certainly make sure you're always playing within your skill level. In regards to TWL's low activity, we also have HOURLY matches to boost activity, and prevent forfeits. Every hour, on the hour teams sign-up for a match. Captains vote for a map. At the top of the hour, teams are scheduled against each other & provided a server to play. Additionally, you can challenge as many teams as you would like, 24/7. Our built in notification system, and future plans to tie into our steam group for notifications will help keeps players & teams aware of matches.

As for the interface, we're constantly making changes. You can join a team multiple ways:
A captain can invite you off the free agent list directly
A captain can invite you from the free agent list via dashboard/team builder
A captain can invite you directly from your profile
You can request to join a team form the team profile
You can enter a password at the team profile
You can browse the 'Open' teams list to request to join a team

Have you guys thought about implementing a pug system? It might help build the community around the site, and get players who dont actually have a team more active.

With such a great site like TF2lobby, is there a need for another PUG system?

We do offer a free agent system, and make it very easy to build a team. In the early days of clanning, teams needed a server, and a way to manage their teams. IGL provides everything, all you need is some leadership skills and you can create a team in onl a few hours.

TF2lobby is dreadful, the site is well coded but it's a dreadful place to pug. However I don't think IGL should make it a priority to work on a pug system, it's a place for teams to scrim against other teams. There are other ways to pug, and putting them all together would be needless hassle with no real reward for either party.

Well, lobby took a downward turn as of late.
As far as organized play, it's horrendous; a slight upgrade from pubbing, but not too far from it.
A pug system would give free agents a way to get their names out to captains, and allow people to find more cohesive teammates in a play-oriented situation. This will, inevitably lead to a stronger metagame and therefore, more attraction to the league.

If you do it right, you will have 0 competition from tf2lobby (i think the creator will actually be relieved that he can finally stop supporting it).

TF2lobby has no matchmaking, rating-system, or support for encouraging external-voip. If you had your own pug system, teams could have a quick glimpse at the skill-level of free-agents, without having to scrim or mge with each one (assuming stats/ranking is tracked). Additionally, free-agents could have a way of meeting up and playing together outside of randomly starting a team and trying out player after player. Going from pug buddies to teammates would be seamless since both parties already have active accounts with the site. The name of the game here is accessibility. The easier you make it for players to play and start teams, the more players you are likely to get.

I dont really know how much time and money it would take to get that feature running, so i guess its up to you guys to figure out of its worth it. If your concern is that there are better alternatives in TF2 already and youd be competing with other services, i dont think that is true.

This is quite inspiring. I Spoke with my Co-Founder Eyal, and we did agree that a PUG system is of value. It's not on any immediate plans, but a robust PUG system we can scale out to multiple games is something we're interested in.

I've tried more than a few times to reach the creators of TF2lobby to discuss business opportunities. I have yet to receive a response. I just concluded the platform was abandoned.

I don't know the feasibility of this, but what if players were individually "ranked" with an ELO or similar system, and pugs wins/losses would affect that score/elo/etc. in much the same way mge does now.

It would be harder with multiple classes, but I think with some tweaking it would be really sweet.

Make it like ESEA Client, log in, double click X server and start playing. Short sweet and simple.

So much potential, I love it. Gonna try and get my team in, hope it does well so we can see 6's included, too.

Not really a fan of the forums, though, I hate that type of setup.

@Niko - Please do get your team registered, matches start in a week. There's 4 active, and 25+ with 6 or more players waiting to fill out their rosters. In regards to the forums, we got some functionality updates coming. Style updates are coming in a few weeks.

@fraac - A lot of our functionality is reliant on match activity. Things like article links, and more details on the player profile are already completed & on the staging environment pending a push to production.

We're totally community - if you, or anyone have any features or bugs you would like to submit, you can reach me at dallen[at]playigl[dot]com

Party Team will be facing Dedoris on Monday, 6/3/2013. Not sure if we'll be the inaugural match, but it's the earliest we can both pull off. Once we've played, we'll pop in here to let you guys know how things went!

Somehow I got the feel this league is going to be really successful so if this comes to be true, just make sure it's an awesome match and rejoice on the fact that you played the first official match on IGL ever. :D

Change of plans! We're moving our match to Saturday, 6/1 at 12pm PST! DOOR and Party Team have been scrim partners for a while now, and most of our scrims have been nail-biters, so we're expecting it to be a lot of fun!

Right now you have to create a site account, then link your steam to your site account afterward. It's inconvenient, but doesn't really break it. A lot of little things on the site are broken, but there's usually a work-around.

Apparently having a space in my username causes my profile to not exist.

http://www.playigl.com/player/Niko%20Jims

I also can't invite my teammate because he has an exclamation point in his name, causing his profile to not exist. http://www.playigl.com/player/dan!

Figured I would post this here in case others have the same problems.

How do you link your account to a different steamid? I could create a new account but I want to keep the name.

Played our first match, here's my report:

12pm, match started. First server went down after the first round. Some difficulty was had in getting things going again.

12:30ish, second round started. A second server was set up for us, played out the rest of the match without a hitch.

The admin was talking to both myself and the leader of the other team throughout to try and address problems. The first few matches will be a little rough, and the account linking needs to be fixed, badly, but the bootstrapper worked fine.

This issue was fixed - it was caused by us statically returning www.playigl.com. If a user was visiting playigl.com (no www) the issue occurred.

To elaborate - everything functioned as expected, however the Dallas box where he match was being held had an stv demo running for a few days which hit over 400GB causing the server to crash. Within minutes IGL had a Chicago based server setup & link to all user dashboards for easy access.

Perhaps you can explain to these users tom how easy it was for you as a captain to get your players to join the match.

Yeah, once the kinks were worked out, everything else was easy-peasy. Just go into the dashboard and click "play" and you're good to go.
