finally happening! i am very excited for this, it's been a problem how hard it is to get into tf2 and having a decently sized youtuber start an indepth tutorial on the intricacies of comp would definitely help that issue

will also gradually increase skill level of newbies on faceit...

Hopefully these wind up being being pretty entertaining as well as informative. I feel like one of the major issues with comp right now is that there's no obvious way to get in that doesn't involve several hours of reading/watching a bunch of boring ass guides or just getting in game to be endlessly flamed. Honestly I find it confusing that it's taken as long as it has for anything like this to come out, considering that the game has played pretty consistently for years now. I mean shit, I made my own attempt at a video when I had less than a year of TF2 experience and absolutely zero editing experience, and while it didn't actually turn out to be useful for getting better I thought it really seemed to resonate with newbies. b4nny and Shounic sounds like a dream team for making something people will legitimately want to watch. Good luck!

BeelthazusGrant, buy a mic pop for the love of god

^^

in all seriousness, this could be a really good series for new players and help bring more people into competitive. Can't wait for more episodes in the future

side note: I do wish I didn't run into people that ran shield demo to mid in faceit pugs :(

Which kind of people are these videos meant to appeal to? New players? If so why are new players who apparently don't know how to enable console being directed to FACEIT? Also how is ozfortress and asiafortress counterparts to FACEIT?

I didn't know about interp commands and what it does for you until my 4th season of HL so I'm sure there is few that don't even know these commands even exist

The series will include lessons that appeal to players both brand new and quite experienced. These first couple videos would be the kind of thing you'd send to people who are interested in competitive TF2 but don't necessarily know where to start or all the obscure but important details of what it takes to play competitive TF2. I prefer to start with basics so that everyone is guaranteed to be on the same page (the same rationale behind any type of 101 course). I imagine most people who watch that video have console enabled, but I would rather not assume. Besides it took mere seconds to explain how to enable it. Eventually we'll cover more advanced topics so stay tuned.

I also disagree with the idea that new players shouldn't be playing on FACEIT. I see FACEIT as pretty much a replacement for TF2Center, which most people would have been fine directing new players to. Discouraging people from using FACEIT is counter productive to our scene because it is one of the most promising things we have in competitive TF2 at the moment. FACEIT really should be the go-to third party competitive TF2 platform for people of all skill levels. It certainly needs a few key features to be able to interest more experienced players, but those features will only be developed if the platform is popular so I'm taking steps to ensure that. As for directing people to different kinds of sites, FACEIT is unfortunately only supporting NA and EU, so for people outside of those areas they'd probably have a better chance at finding places to play by reaching out to those other communities listed.

it struck me more as him introducing the leagues/services tbh. like this is the first video in a multi part series thats probably meant to be watched as a whole. i doubt hes expecting people to watch part 1 on console commands and hardware and then immediately queue up for faceit.

b4nnyFACEIT related comments

I feel that advertising the FACEIT icebreaker events would be a bit better than directing a player that just discovered the wonders of fov_desired 90 to the main system, where they're likely going to be confused by some things

  • why does the game might not end after one team reaches 5 rounds?
  • why running a pyro to mid isn't a good idea (at least in the current state of 6v6)
  • why can't they equip the reserve shooter when it's what they've become used to running for basically all their time playing TF2

And the list can go on and on. I'm certain that the general consensus here is that FACEIT should (and kind of needs to) become the main lobby site for competitive tf2 until valve MM isn't a massive disaster of a system.

Edit: Another thing, do you plan on at least touching the subject of custom huds? I know that you only use some modifications of the default hud but in the slight chance that a player feels that the default hud isn't good enough, even a slight mention of what huds are designed for and a referral to huds.tf doesn't seem like it would hurt that much

is there a way to drive players off tf2center

because i really think tf2c needs to shut down before it becomes the "go-to platform"

From what I've heard, any kind of mention of competition to tf2c in their mumble or in public chat gets you banned (not sure if its from the site or something else) very quickly
