How do nerdstars work?

Does anyone know how nerdstars actually work and the criteria for getting them? I don't really care too much (well I obviously care enough to make this post) but I've been stuck on half a star for like a year, regardless of how many +frags I get. The only thing I can think of is them depending on both comment frags and thread frags so even if I have enough comment +frags to "qualify" for a higher tier of nerddom, I don't have the thread +frags to get there

Other possible factors that I can only speculate about
Ratio of posts with significant +frags vs no frags or -frags
Number of posts with XX amount of + frags ex 50 or higher plus frags posts

Threads might give a bigger bonus than posts for all I know.

Pretty sure the 2 threads I have about my config account for close to 2 of my nerdstars.

Hamaham got that with that one thread about his father being the heavy. He got at least 400 upfrags from the different posts on that account, to my knowledge.

yup. when enigma made the switch over to the current system i went from 2 nerdstars to 4 instantly. to add on to what you're saying, users are also not awarded to people with consistently poorly +fragged posts, example:

i believe the current system also rewards posting of well-received threads more than just comments, but i may be wrong about that.

Thanks for the info guys, and yeah I do think that threads are a much much bigger factor than comments, as I said in the op. Using myself as an example, I've got several hundred comment +frags, a negligible amount of comments with -frags but I haven't made any popular threads. I guess that would explain the system

Never made a thread myself and I got half a nerdstar at exactly 250 posts so I guess that confirms

So 1000 posts will get you 4 nerdstars even if you never make your own threads. Except if a lot of your comments get -fragged or you make threads that get a lot of +frags
