Crashes in other games? Specs? OS? Recent driver updates? Have you tried removing all custom configs and playing on default and verifying/reinstalling tf2?

Try verifying tf2 and after that, try a clean run/reinstall of tf2 first to rule out any issues with the game. Your overlay problems could be unrelated. You can back up your /tf folder to save ur settings.

not sure if related but try going through your custom folder and deleting all the files that are .cache and go to console and type snd_restart and see if that helps
