What are some good transitions that look nice and natural when viewing a frag movie. I am using Adobe premiere pro cc to edit. Ive tried the cross dissolve and it just dosn't look natural Its far too distracting.
Thanks

Fast wipes, fast dissolves, or just a standard cut can all work.

Those are the basics, obviously you can get fancy and key shit out, and transition like that. Also if done right film burns can look good, but only in moderation.

People overrate and overuse transitions way too much. A straight cut can work just fine, or some fancy camera smoothing with straight cuts between, if you wanna get fancy.

Like joe said, fast wipes and CLEAN looking ui i guess. Point being, make it look nice and neat like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkRZreUD-HQ

NOT These :) :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5bqCtoAaq8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMWSerKGM6I

Reasons these were bad
-Horrible Gameplay (Duh)
-Ugly Looking font
-Poor video quality
-Poor Choice of music

Just avoid having ur video fall into any of those criterias and you should be good.

Cross dissolve aka fade is the best transition really, I use it 90% of the time. Cuts when you want to accentuate something, has to be perfectly synced to music. Linear wipe is also pretty good, if you can make it work. Really, the key to transitions is using just the basic ones but tweaking the settings until they're perfect, I would avoid all those fancy transitions with all sorts of weird effects that come with Premiere, or any editing software really, they are simply bad and it's usually the company trying to impress potential customers with the amount of transitions it comes with.

note that how good these transitions will be for your frag video depends entirely on the overall aesthetic you're going for. french are fucking awesome had some of the goofiest, flashiest transitions I've ever seen of any video in my life, but it works really well because it's a silly, flashy frag video

Knowing where to cut is far more important than knowing what transition to use imo, I see a lot of videos with bad cuts (frag stays longer than it needs, starts earlier than it needs, or cut too short). If you cut in the right place, chances are the clip will fit much better with whatever transition you decide to use.

Also try to have a logical aesthetic clip order. One frag might not "click" next to another one but if you swap it around with some other clips you might find it working much better than originally.

As for transitions itself, I think that depends a lot of the style of the movie and also your personal editing style, I tend to experiment with a lot of different stuff but a simple standard cut if the clip order is right works wonders, sometimes a 1-2 secs smooth also works very well in between frags. Usually the simple fade transition will also do the job nicely (I tend to set this to 0.10-0.25ms max) as anything more than that creates unnecessary ghosting and it looks bad aesthetically.

dont be cloudmaker

transitions really shouldnt be noticeable to the average viewer on the first viewing, but that's hard to judge as the creator i guess. also dont use dozens of different transitions otherwise yr video looks less concise or focused i guess. Try not to use transitions or post process that is noticeably higher quality than the recorded footage too, like dont leave hud elements and shit on with a high quality or flashy transition or its gonna look awkward

kaneco is right tho a good frag movie is 99% planning out how the frags are gonna fit. All the after effects in the world aren't going to cover 5 seconds of dead time after a good airshot, but a clean video is gonna look nice without color correction and film grain effects or w/e
