This pyro can feel other spies! All other pyros hate him, (BRIGHT FLASHING LIGHTS!) Click here to reveal his secret!

All jokes aside, I posted a similar thread on the tf2 steam forums and all I got was:

Wow you are really lucky!
You should be really good at competitive pyro!
(awww ty)
I see no problem here!

But! No it is not. It is horrible to play on pubs with 20 spies on both teams.

Basically, everytime a spy decloaks, doesnt matter if I am on borneo and he is on badwater (ofcnot) I lag, I get a small but bad lagspike. It really messes me up on HL, you are already on the middle of the fight and then your spy and their spy cloaks and I lag. (yes this works both ways)

100% sure this isn't lag but just FPS drops

In 6s, this fps lag can be advantageous, if you feel like your fps dropped for a second out of nowhere, then enemy team is using a Spy, it's a cool little trick.

I have a confession everyone, way back when I used to play in Avenue e-Sports with iliketospin he had a secret, one that would change my life forever.

When I arrived back home from work to play another evening of TF2 with my team friends (I call them friends instead of mates because they were friends and not mates) my mood was high, I like playing with this team, it had Stark before he became a toxic gamer that sucked all the happiness from around him. I'd liken him to a Dementor from Harry Potter, but now you can not merely cast a spell to make him go away.

So I popped in to our team speak channel (we had to use TS because the sponsor wouldn't give us mumble and wanted us to be with the rest of their teams) and booted up TF2 to play another round of TF2 for the evening.

The map was badlands last, a classic, we were doing well vs. LMS leading 3-1, our morale was high, unfortunately during the game we were pushed back to our last and forced to defend, and that's when my life changed forever.

You see, spin had a secret, one that he was about to reveal to me. "They have a spy!" he called, I was befuddled, how could he know? So I asked and I regret doing so. "When a spy goes invisible my game lags, doesn't matter where it happens on the map"...

I was distraught, my whole life at that moment was torn apart, was I an asset to the crime? What if this was in an official capacity? Would I be punished for knowing this information? I had just entered in to the dizzying heights of low prem, I didn't want to be removed from something I worked so hard for.

Alas, I have been living with this burden for an age I've now felt the time is right to inform people of what I know.

Had it as well a long time ago. It went away on itself. No clue why it started and why it went away. But it was really annoying to play with.

Also if you go through teleports it should give you an fps drop as well.

Force Ambient Occlusion off on your graphics card. If you're just on integrated graphics then you're fucked I think.

SirDuckensThat, some people told me its my potato not being able to get rid of ambient occlusion.

tf2 doesn't have ambient occlusion, so unless you've tried to force it with a driver setting, that shouldn't be your issue

to me it just sounds like your GPU is shit at rendering the cloak shader. if you use DX8.1, which uses a different cloak shader, does it still lag? with viewmodels enabled in DX9, if you cloak while playing spy, does it constantly lag?

for me, this happens on both dx9 and dx8. even with an fps config
as for firstperson viewmodels, there's no trouble. but with world models (bumping a spy, or just seeing one of my teammate spies) i go from a solid hold above 60 fps to around 25(?). the only thing i can compare it to is "cinematic" mode on minecraft.

Duck doesn't really play tf2 anymore but a while ago he got better hardware and didn't have this problem anymore.

Wow, I had just gotten over my confession about being in a team with a KNOWN EXPLOIT ABUSER. Now the memory returns fresh as ever ready to send me down the spiral staircase of depression (there's lego pieces on the stairs too).
