maybe lock threads that havent seen any action in a certain amount of time to prevent necros as hard as this http://teamfortress.tv/thread/8410/roamers-of-the-past/?page=2#43 from happening again
shouldn't affect the majority of people and could encourage people to read old help threads as opposed to creating new ones with already-solved questions
hud creators/guide writers can edit posts and have that count as thread activity (which wouldnt be a problem either way since people post consistently enough on them) to prevent accidental thread locking

If there's an already existent thread for something, regardless of how old it is, I don't see the point in preventing people from posting in it. Would you rather have had people make an entirely new thread to talk about their favorite roamers from the past even though there's already one? To me it makes sense for a conversation about a particular simple topic to be contained to one thread instead of encouraging people to create duplicates.

Here's some examples:
http://teamfortress.tv/thread/8447/favorite-frag-movies/?page=1
http://teamfortress.tv/thread/17672/what-was-the-best-fragmovie-you-ever-watched/?page=1
http://teamfortress.tv/thread/19676/whats-your-favourite-frag-video/?page=1

http://teamfortress.tv/thread/8470/fantasy-tf2/?page=1
http://teamfortress.tv/thread/7610/tf2-fantasy-league/?page=1
http://teamfortress.tv/thread/13136/tf2-fantasy-league-like-fantasy-football/?page=1
http://teamfortress.tv/thread/14156/the-best-frag-videos/?page=1

http://teamfortress.tv/thread/7891/origins-of-your-name-alias/?page=1
http://teamfortress.tv/thread/22253/how-did-you-come-up-with-your-name/?page=1

There are a ton of other threads like this where it would've just made sense to keep the conversation in one place.

I think enigma is going to do something better, which is to put up a notice if a thread is more than a month old from the last reply.
