Laptop Wifi Problem

Hi all

Whenever I am using my laptop, the wireless internet is really slow and cutting out multiple times each minute. Meanwhile I can be using wifi through my phone at the same time and it works perfectly, which leads me to believe there is an issue with the laptop somehow.

I have tried uninstalling my Wireless Network Adapter and reinstalling it. I've tried troubleshooting the problem through Windows which also didn't help. Really stuck on how to go about this, google also not providing too many answers.

Exact same thing here, only that the net is better when wireless, than Ethernet, which is odd.

Not a fix but consider power line adapaters if you can't fix it. They're amazing. Also, does it happen with all wifis or just one ?

goatreinstall network drivers?

Tried that last night, didn't seem to help.

Affan how far away are you from router? Does it happen when you are near the router aswell?

I just tried again this morning from exactly the same spot and it is working much much much better. Generally I am using my laptop before I go to bed which seems to always cause problems, this morning from the same spot it's much better - no intermittance or slow speed. I'd guess it would be an issue with the internet, but since it's working on my phone at the same time it seems odd.

Edit: Actually it's being a bit unreliable as soon as I post this.

how are you testing with the phone? Generally the protocols you're using on the phone will be less problematic under stress testing, so it might be bad on the phone and you just don't notice it as much.

are there more/less other people using the wifi at certain times? i find that the more people using a given network makes it really unreliable, especially far from the router

kuzahow are you testing with the phone? Generally the protocols you're using on the phone will be less problematic under stress testing, so it might be bad on the phone and you just don't notice it as much.

When the internet is completely out on the laptop (literally not connected to the wifi), I can still load web pages on my phone through the same wifi.

No one else is using the wifi at the time it's being shitty. I'm probably the furthest point possible from my router, but it's a smallish house so I'd expect it to be able to have decent signal. It's reaching my phone after all right?

your phone probably just has a better antenna, and has the advantage of being designed to be used almost exclusively wirelessly. if your cell phone doesn't get cell reception it doesn't work at all, while if your laptop doesn't get wifi reception it's inconvenient but you can just move closer to your router. so phones have better antennas/design considerations towards reception than laptops.

i used to have the same problem, until i did a couple of things. first was to make a stupid looking aluminum dish for the antenna on my router. it looks dumb but actually works quite well. one caveat is that this might degrade reception for other people in the same house if you are pointing it directly at you. another thing you could try is to get a cheap usb wifi adaptor and connect it to a long USB cable and place it somewhere closer to the router where it can get a better signal.

In this situation google doesn't provide a right answer. but you have to put effort. Try wifi range extender, if you are facing the problem in your laptop. because in laptop wifi extender works very well.
