How many hours a day should I practice?

Currently, I practice 1 hour a day in botmaps. After that I play online pubs for around 1hr 30 minutes.

To be really damn good at scout, how long should I practice a day?

(By botmaps I mean I play tr_aim_training)

Botmaps and pubswon't get you much better. Play mge, soap dm, and scrims/pugs/lobbies(eek).

1-2 hours a day of practice is good really, but if you do like 4 a day for a couple week it could be a lot faster.

just do your practice in like 30 min - 45 min stints...you can't maintain the level of concentration needed for much longer than that you'll just start dwindling.

Take your time aiming and deeking out your opponent, and gradually you'll get better. And try not to play so much, less than a hour in DM should be fine for a day.

Exactly this.
Or you can cheat and take adderall.

I usually mge until map change then DM for another hour or so. If I get bored of either I practice on tr maps.

No disrespect platinum, but if I want to be a div3-1 scout how will 45 minutes a day help me? It would take me forever to get good enough to compete.

I think hes saying to practice in 30-45 minute sessions with breaks inbetween, not 30-45 minutes a day

Don't over practise, a couple of hours a day is enough, as Platinum said doing it in 30-40 minute periods is best do you get a mental break.

Depending on the type of person you are also doing too much practise won't achieve as much as making sure you have eaten/slept/relaxed enough before you play. I once practised about 6 hours a day, sure it helped but when it came to matches and practise games it didn't make too much a difference because I had played so much TF2 I was mentally exhausted and playing far off my best. Find a good balance and stick to it, even on your off days.

I wouldn't practice more than 3 hours in total, you just get burnt out so fast in this game.
Heck, I'm content with about an hour of dm and then a scrim or two and I'm off to dota~

Pubs and Lobbies make good players worse by creating bad habits. Play them sparingly.

im pretty sure if you spend 2 hours a day playing against bots and in pubs you will actually get worse over time

spend 1-2 hours a day scrimming, if you really feel like you need to waste more time than that play SOAP DM

Play pugs until u find a team, and dont pub unless ur planning on dicking around and not using anything u used in the pub in an actual game, a friend and I top fragged by 40 points as double medic :|

imo pugs are better experience than mge or dm

Just swap out the time in botmaps and pubs with pugs and you should get better by lots, but play with people that know what theyre doing and are all willing to get better

While DM can take you a long way, what seems to separate average scouts from good ones is good communication and an understanding of where to be and what to cover. For this reason, I'd actually suggest pugs > MGE.

I've seen many scouts with good DM perform terribly in matchplay because they are not in tune with their team's actions.

Practice for as long as you want to. Don't force your self to play the game.

2 hours of scrimming / dm at least

to be consistently improving

you can improve faster if you play more

you also shouldn't play more than 10 minutes of botmaps (and it should be for warming up if you are going to )

When I first started playing, I did DM mod for hours on end and improved pretty quick. Then I got into some weird ass attitude where I just would get mad whenever people killed me, so I went to playing bot maps and pubs where I had little competition. Over that period of time I got worse and kept getting even more mad wondering why I was bad.

So yeah, fuck training maps

One thing is to not burn yourself out before scrimming. I used to DM/MGE for 2-3 hours before scrimming, and I wouldn't perform well. When I cut that down to 45 minutes to an hour I did a lot better. It's also good to separate your DM practices with discussion with your teammates or demo reviews.
