Roamer on Gran Mids

So in the last few granary mids I have gotten absolutely nothing done. I try going up on the crates and controlling them, but I die almost immediately to counter jumping soldiers or spam from the demoman. I'll try going down either the right or left side and always seem to run into scouts by myself and get destroyed. I try different timings (jumping in aggressively, staying passive, delaying myself), yet nothing seems to work.

Any tips that people might have for me?

Try just jumping from crate to crate baiting people's attention until everyone is reloading and things have settled down, or you see someone on your team who could use support. Then, you can go for bombs, cap, get out, whatever you decide.

you could try coordinating with your demo going up top and you taking a very fast rollout to mid then bombing their combo/demo

Distraction roamer is definitely valid on granary mid. What #2 said has worked in invite many-a-time, so it can work for you.

If you want to be more proactive, but don't feel like you can both start AND finish kills, then just focus on one of them.

Starting kills:
Jump in, do some damage, jump out with your last loaded rocket. Very fast hit and run. Call what got hurt the most and your team should focus it for an easy kill. Worst case scenario: you miss all your rockets but were still a distraction.

Ending kills:
Wait for someone on your team (most likely the scouts and your demo) to call that something is hurt (tell them to call anything that takes like 40+ damage) and get on it IMMEDIATELY. For example, if one of your scouts hits 4 pistols on an enemy scout right when they get to mid, then get on that scout the moment you can.

We tend to have poor communication on granary mid as far as calling focus targets, I guess cause it's pretty hectic.

I've tried the distraction many times, but I tend to get cleaned up before I have a chance to get away, and if I try to get away early, it seems like I wasn't enough of a distraction cause they still kill my teammates.

I just had another scrim against a team that normally beats us 5-1 and 5-2 on granary, and my pocket and I just went either right or left together and just went after the same thing. It worked really really well, and we just cleaned up on eachother's damage. It's hard to say that maybe it would only work against that particular team's mid strat, but normally they beat us so it was better than usual.

just don't overestimate the height advantage of crates, it's very easy for their demo to spam you or soldiers to counterjump you still

if a lot of good dmg/kills present themselves to you but they force you to be on the ground, that's fine.

A question about being a distraction: I'm fine with jumping around, maybe doing a little damage, and just trying to get them to pay attention to me. But is there anything in particular that my team should do differently if I'm playing the distraction part?

tell them not to sit around like a bunch of vaginas and push across the point.

I usually have the scouts call the combo and I bomb straight onto the demo and the med. Even if you don't get kills it's not hard to put down at least 100 damage on both (usually more since Gran is pretty hard to see people coming when you are coming right out of choke or garage.

If you get repeatedly destroyed on the crates, try jumping their catwalk. A lot of the time it's easy to pick the demo and still get back to your side/medic. You can distract a lot of players by jumping behind them, allowing your teammates to clean them up.

the worst thing your combo or team can do on gran mids is sit back in a corner, especially when you push left side into middle. its good to coordinate with one of your scouts to go in while they're distracted from you jumping. you should always play aggro as roamer in gran mid, whether its contesting their soldiers on your boxes or theirs or just jumping the demo/med. even if you don't pick up a kill when you bomb them your damage should be sufficient enough for your team to clean up on.

its good to call whos hurt when you bomb on them, your team can get really aggressive and go into them and not let them get out. most of the time depending on how hurt they're they will either back out and stay alive, or they will stay in and fight either way it should do the trick.

also if a team adjusts or catches on to what you're doing just change it up, gran mid is a roamers best friend you can be pretty creative with how you do your jumps. avoid scouts if they just sit on their boxes and try to peg you out of the sky that'll happen as well. gotta be good with timing your jumps/bombs...don't be too predictable and you don't always have to suicide off the bat you can delay a little too just constantly be changing it up. once u play it more and more it'll be pretty easy for you
