I know my fps dies when I look at a quick-fix uber, perhaps you're seeing more of them since the update and this is happening?

If I get qf-ubered and look down, my fps goes from 150 to like... 2. (DONT LOOK DOWN)

Actually I've noticed this as well. For me, if I'm playing medic with QF, or if I get ubered by a QF, my fps drops and makes my mouse lag. It's only with the QF. It must be the animation for it not being optimized well.

i cant even play 6s, whenever something is relatively close to me, i get crazy mouse lag and my fps drops from 150 to 14... when i see a quick fix uber, i get around 2-5 fps :'(

crespiIt makes player models look really cool. Phong is a type of shading/lighting. With phong set to 0 [off] player models do not have that artificial white light.

Oh, I had the phongless textures i downloaded from gamebanana (which i deleted today to see how it worked without it). Mine was set to 1 but it seems it doesn't affect anything if you're playing with dx8

keeping a close eye on this thread. If I do try putting mat_phong 0 into my config, is it the config in common, or the one under my user name? Cheers

i'm just wonderin but does anyone know why when a spy cloaks anywhere on my screen i get 15 or so fps then it goes straight back up to 100 or so? i get that there are a lot of particles but jesus are there that many? same with uber and medigun particles it's frustrating playing medic when i get 50 less frames than any other class

Seriously... someone needs to have a fucking solution. It's getting to the point where I don't even want to play this game (probably for the better anyway). I have a slight feeling it's because my PSU is overheating and once I get that sorted out, I'll see if I still have this issue.

First it was 200 FPS down to 80, now I'm lucky to get 130 FPS and it drops down to 30. This is literally the stupidest shit I've experienced with this game.

The worst part about it is when I talked to Valve about it, they said they were pretty sure they knew what the issue was and would ship it out in an upcoming update or two or whatever and that was 3-4 months ago.

edit: Can someone explain the dangers of leaving my case open? I don't have a fan I can put on it. I need to clean some of the inside, which might also be causing this problem, but that unfortunately has to wait until I get some money.

Defrag your hdd (Defraggler is my choice), clean your pc both ways which are malware/spyware, delete unneeded files that are just taking up hdd space and as well cleaning case and fans etc
Other things that should help are running tf2 in high priority (-high in launch options) and what helped me as well was cl_threaded_bone_setup 2

Just my opinion

nothing as long as you dont drop anything in it or spill anything in it or let your dog lick anything in it

Thought I was alone with this problem - only difference with me is I've had it for around 4 months now. Was previously hitting 700+ fps easily. Now in spawns it's around 200, then drops down as low as 50 fps in mid fights. Although no where near as bad as some of the others posted in this thread, it's pretty annoying. >_>

What happened to me is since yesterday, I've been getting 100 fps then 8 fps, 100 fps then 10 fps. this is all cycling every few seconds, making the game completely unplayable. Will try uninstalling but.. I haven't touched any settings or played with my bios or anything. So the fact that this sudden change is.. depressing

Would changing fps config help? Would changing dx8 to dx9 (or reverse) help?

It is honestly becoming unplayable. Would there be a way to submit a complaint to valve, or would it be better to all pile into a thread on SPUF?

I play with my case open on summer because of the heat, when my pc just randomly turns off or restarts while playing a game like tf2 i open the case and clean the inside of it, most of the times gets it fixed that way, atleast for me :P

I have no temp issues and have a clean install of windows and tf2, and this has been happening for at least a week. I normally never dip below 200 fps even on 32 player servers, but today I was normally 120 and dipping to like 80 in big fights. It's the rapid changes that are most annoying.

Also, I have run every fps config, played without any fps configs, re-installed TF2, cleared my CMOS (BIOS) and I'm still getting terribad frames. It's not even in any sort of firefight or scene, it's in spawn, in a server by myself, no matter what my frames are jumping from 100 to 10 100 to 8 etc every few seconds that I can't even move for 2 seconds without stuttering, I've monitored cpu and gpu and temps and everything is normal, completely normal. Idk what to do.

Any update on this issue? Has anyone sent a report to valve?

I sent a report to Valve about this nearly half a year ago and exchanged quite a few emails about it. They said they might have found a related issue and that it would get shipped in an upcoming update, but they never shipped anything for performance or instability.

EkI usually have ~20 fps normally (shit laptop...) but now I can rarely get above 7-8 fps... :(

Use an fps config. http://chrisdown.name/tf2/
download that, use maxframes. put maxframes into your cfg file name it autoexec.cfg
make sure to open your class cfgs ex: demoman.cfg
and check if there is anything in there if there is then delete what is inside make sure to check every class cfg once you put the maxframes thing in rename it "autoexec.cfg"
you'll probably get around 70 fps now but you can further customize it to get even more.
